Rustler Spur Gear
Ok, so I have a castle creations 5700kv motor in my rustler xl5. I have already upgraded my idler gear to metal, since it stripped. My 90t spur gear stripped to and I am wondering if anybody knows maybe how to stop that from happening, or know of any metal 90t 48p spur gears that will have a tourque control slipper clutch that will fit my car?
Thanks
Thanks

RE: Rustler Spur Gear
if you really want a high quality steel spur and heavy duty slipper, then this will work great, its just, you gotta pay for it when its probably really not worth it with your setup...
from Robinson Racing's website: (even though it says Slash 2wd it will fit, they use the same tranny)

RE: Rustler Spur Gear
Setting the slipper will only help so much and steel spurs are a very bad idea. I had the same spur gear problem you're having and my fix was to swap to 32 pitch gears. The 58T spur from the Jato bolts right on. You will need the correct 32 pitch pinion and you will not be able to use the gear cover but it's not necessary with the larger 32P gears.
I made this change on all my traxxas cars and trucks about 3 or 4 yrs ago and I haven't replaced a pinion or spur since and most of them run 3S with VXL motors so the setup is strong. The only other thing I would recommend is the steel diff gear as it will be the weakest link in the drive train.

RE: Rustler Spur Gear
That's a good idea, go with bigger pitch!!!! well a 58t won't work cuz I need something like a 90t. or are 32p gears bigger than 48p gears. for example a 86t 48p smaller than a 86t 32p? I will need something equivalent to 90t 48p.

RE: Rustler Spur Gear
just change your pinion to match the spur.

RE: Rustler Spur Gear
I know to change the pinion, the question is do 32p gears run bigger than the same amount of teeth in a 48p gear. I am not going to overgear and screw up my motor.

RE: Rustler Spur Gear
no. what i'm saying is change your pinion to match the lower toothed spur. for example, if you use a 58t Jato spur, you would want to use somewhere around a 14t pinion, but that's just a rough estimate.
