Stolen RC cars.

Stolen RC cars.
Here is a little story.
I was sitting in a local tavern, having an after work rum and coke, when someone walks in and sits next to me. He informs me that he has some things he would like to sell. We talk, turns out he has a bunch of RC cars in his trunk! I take a look, sure enough, about $5000-6000 worth of 1/8th scale buggies. He really had no idea what he had, or what they were worth, he wanted $50. A pair of 8ights, a pair of Mugens, a Kyosho (MP777 I think), an RC8 (all fully loaded), several M11 radios, and a padded box full of a dozen really nice engines. I jumped on it. I like a good deal as much as the next person, but these were clearly hot. I post an ad on craigslist saying I had several RC cars that were potentially stolen. Within 15 minutes I get an email from the guy they were stolen from. He lists off everything that disappeared from his garage, everything matches. He shows up and is just about the nicest guy I have ever met, he asks how much I paid, he nearly **** his pants when I tell him $50. He gave me $200 for a reward, and informed me of a new track that is opening near by.
My good deed for the day.

Holy crap. Good for you. You probably played your cards right. In a perfect world, the perp would get arrested and do some time but if you reported him, the stuff would all be locked up and the owner probably wouldn't get his stuff back for a while.

Good work man! Too bad you didn't get the name of the guy who stole them. That was good thinking to throw them up on Craigslist, I think people sell alot of stolen things there, therefore it was probably the first place the owner looked.

Wow, thats crazy and awesome at the same time.
My question; how did the guy that had stolen the r/c's know you would be interested?

My fiancee and i read this one together and both had the same "That is awesome" reaction. Good on you, my friend. I would have paid that $50 outright just to help him get it back. Cannot say enough about this, my friend, but I can definitely say it speaks good of your character. Well played.

Well played! I'm glad the gear got to go to its rightful home in the end. Hopefully you could at least give a description of the guy and his car to the local authorities.

WOW! great story there man! and great job finding the owner. I would like to think I would have done the same thing too. But I bet deep down you are just a little dissapointed you found the rightfull owner
I had a smilar insident last year. I was fishing from my kayak in one of the local rivers when I came across a kayak wedged under a fallen tree in the river. I dug it out and noticed it had current registration. I called the division of watercraft and found the owners name and phone number. he came by the house that night and picked it up. Gave me $20 for finding it for him!

Unfortunately, karma didn't pay off... because I just had my $300 GPS stolen from my car.
The way things work I guess.

RE: Stolen RC cars.
How do you know that the guy on Craigslist was genuine and the real owner? So nice to see someone being honest though!
Thanks
Pete
