I recently purchased a used Dynamite Dyna-Sport 1500 at my local track for 5 dollars. They called it the "manager's special". It sounded like a good deal, but a comparable battery costs the same amount of money on the internet. Was this battery a rip off for this price and condition?

What are your plans for this battery? For $5 it may not be a bad deal if you have a purpose for it. If you plan to try to use it in , say your TT Phoenix brushless buggy from your sig, I think you just threw your 5 bucks away.
1500mah isn't much, you gotta find out how well it charges, if it takes full charge/capacity. For a low amp application it might be alright (starter box, some classic rc with only a silver can, or converting a toy to use hobby grade equip, etc)
