building brushless rc car
hey im new to rc cars, but have to build an on-road 1/10 scale RC car for a school electronics project
any help anyone can give me in regards to a good brushless engine set up for around $100-$150 that will drive fast (e,g, 40-60km/h) would be great!! currently been looking at Novak GTB 2 ESc and 13.5T Ballistic brushless motor but as i said im new to this so not sure if it is good for what i need.
also inneed of a good, cheap (<$100) 1/10 scale chassi to run with
Any information or suggestions would be great
thanks

RE: building brushless rc car
For the price the Hobbywing setups are good find em on Hobbypartz.com. I cant seem to paste the link. I run one on my 1/8 scale. Don't forget your gonna need more than a motor and chassis ex. Radio gear steering servo battery charger for battery. As for a chassis there are numerous kits out there. Most people i see pointing out the tamiya kits. Though i have no experience with them. Or check ebay for a roller. As for the speed 60 km h is roughly 37 mph which with a brushless setup shouldn't be at all hard to do.

Do an ebay search for 1/10 pan cars. You should have no trouble finding one within your budget or less. Then add an EZrun Hobbywing brushless sytem and a Flysky radio and a cheap servo and batteries. You should be able to gt the chassis and brushless sytem for under $250 but when you add in the battery, servo and radio gear you might be looking at a bit more than your initial budget.

another option is buying a refurbished Radioshack propulse, they run for $60 RTR, just add a lipo and brushless setup and your good to go. i made one that could do over 80mph and its a tiny 1/18 scale car!

$100 chassis+brushless=broken pieces. You are gonna need to spend a bit more on a base.

IF you want to go the touring route, you can check out OFNA's JL10e. they run for $120 in kit form. you will need to supply a body for it as i believe it does not come with one.
i was going to get one of these but the tamiya group C caught my eye, im sorry, i just love simple, light, direct drive pan cars, and on the right surfaces they can mop the floor with touring cars.
one thing i will add, you can make a pan car go stupid fast with VERY little effort, a silver can motor (slang for cheap freebie motors) can propel one up to 32mph on a 7.2 volt NIMH pack. the biggest down fall is the little weight and very little suspension, on the right parking lot it is a complete thrill to drive, on blacktop and dusty/cracked parking lots, its nothing but spinning out every 10 seconds.

u could get a brand new HBX touring car for $130... its a exact clone of a Tamiya TL01... then a HW 35a 4300kv combo... on a 23t pinion it woild fly on 3s... deffinatly over 60km/h might be more closer to 100km/h...
all these parts are easly available in Australia too... there are even cheap $20 2000mah 11.1vlipos and $30 odd chargers...
all up $250 would do the trick

RE: building brushless rc car
There are still heaps of upgrades for the Tamiya TL01, its a good first chassis. and can be very competive... it can be made alot lighter than stock with alloy screws, carbon gear shafts, alloy main shaft, allow king pins & light weight tamiya chassis. there are alot of suspension upgrades too
the battery holder can be cut out to hold larger lipo batteries, or yeah racing make a battery that will fit

RE: building brushless rc car
this is the same chassis but with buggy arms, axles & body... its got a top speed of 107km/h on 11.1v with a 3900kv motor on 19t pinon & tuned gear set
*speed mesured with on board speed meter
ATM its had a massive make over with shock towers longer shock & truggy tyres, should be faster with the taller tyres... just need to finish it off
Those tyres EXPLODED when i was showing a mate how much the tyres balloned... mind u I was holding one of the back wheels to make it spin faster so they failed at about 214km/h while i was holding it... oops
