lol, yeh, I made it too easy. Well done though, that was even quicker than I expected.

Thanks. Sounds like a nice setup. I need to get back into the electric scene now that battery and motor technologies have taken a serious leap forward.

Sigh...once again I'm reminded never to buy second hand, even if the stuff is new. Grrr. [:@]
the car is indeed brand new, the previous owner has started to assemble it but never got around to finishing it. Unfortunately, in the time in between, he's kept it in a damp basement and there is surface rust on almost eveything made of steel which is a lot on an xray). I will change out the screws, but I don't know what I'm going to do about the driveshafts. I might be really anal and buy just the replacement shafts (as opposed to entire CVDs) and keep the rusty ones as spares, but that's still gonna be a fair few bucks.
More pics tonight when I get it out of the box and inspect it properly. Probably more bad news too...we'll see. Never again second hand unless I know hte seller well enough to complain when it isn't as described!! Under normal circumstances I would have sent this back to the seller and asked for my money back, but its such a hard car to find over here, I'm not going to push my luck. It was a good price as well (if the rust is the only bad news), I paid $400 shipped for it, so it's not all bad...
Still waiting for my RC Monster chassis, but when that arrives, it shouldn't be more than a couple of days til its running, everything else is ready and waiting.

Foxy, get a bottle of Corrosion X and some very, very fine steel wool. Wipe the parts down with Corrosion X, (or let them soak in a bath of it) then rub any stubborn areas down with the steel wool.
That might cure it right up if it is just light surface rust. I've actually used it to get rid of some surface rust on some hand tools and been very happy with it.

Better than fine steel wool, use industrial scotch-brite. I swear by that stuff, and some WD40

I'll give those a try, thanks guys, it definitely is surface rust, I was able to rub it off a couple of the screw heads with just a finger. May not be as bad as I thought. Will save pics for when I have something worth snapping...

I have a CRT i COULD convert however its already pretty dang heavy to begin with...... I would (of course) go out-runner If i did.

+1 on the Corrosion X. I too had badly rusted shafts on one of my vehicles, and the Corrosion X, along with some steel wool fixed the problem. The sprayed areas will be shielded from future rusting too.
Speed X is also a good thing to try for lubrication, if you need it. It has a little more anti-wear and lubricating properties than the regular Corrosion X.

Get ya self some of this... we use it at work... thats how good it is... Its amazing stuff. can even polish cast alloy to a very high shine...
It wont just remove the rust it will protect it.

brasso works wonders too, i use them on all my antique fan restorations, that and steel wool and mother's aluminum polish.

How rusty are they? You may be able to pull off the rust with some stripper, RustOleum makes great stripper, but it will also probably pull off the oxide coating. The hardware is no problem, it's cheap... but the proprietary parts, like the drive shafts, start to get a bit more spendy.

i'm actually thinking of selling my brushless CRT, it just got dull because i couldn't break it, and now it sits in bits halfway through a clean, gathering dust.
