Interested in finding out average age and demographics of current RCU Users

I know its been done before, but lots of people have left RCU for greener pastures. I am just curious what the average age is of current RCU users, what you run, and what state you live in.

Me I am an old man with the the heart of a kid I am 54, drive mostly nitro, and live in southwestern PA.

This is still my favorite RC site. I've tried others but always end up back here, but not nearly as often as I used to.

Now I got the money for the toys, as a kid growing up dirt bikes were cheap and thats what I could afford and I also knew very little about rc cars. My first was a Tyco turbo hopper or something like that. I definately know Tyco made it.

Lol, I'll never grow up, I'm 29 and still feel like I'm 18

Im a huge SCT fan, I'm running from 1/24 all the way to 1/5
I've got a few other things in the mix, like crawlers and touring cars, but nothing beats a 1/5 SCT.... Well IMO

RE: Interested in finding out average age and demographics of current RCU Users

36 years old, married with 2 kids (2nd one is still in the oven), born in Warwick, near Coventry in England, moved to Athens, Greece 10 years ago. I'm a career IT specialist (working professionally in IT since the age of 16), currently in charge of Enterprise Applications deployment for one of the Big4 consulting companies' audit division in Athens. For a real car, I drive a Honda Civic Type R, and am a dedicated Honda fanatic. A fast real car is a pure essential of life for me. Got my first RC aged 8 years old, an original Tamiya Frog, and apart from a few extended breaks over the years, I've been RCing since then. I raced extensively in 1/10th nitro on road where I thought I was pretty good, then I did 1 off road season in an Xray nitro buggy. Then got into gassers, still have 3 of them. Then family came and now I mainly bash 1/8th scale brushless electric (pinnacle of the surface hobby, imo, technology and performance-wise) when I have the time. I'm a wrencher more than a driver. My main goal in life (as I've accomplished the family thing now), is to own a Lamborghini (any one will do, but an original Miura or a Murcielago LP640 are top of the list) before I hit 45 (used to be 40, but I think that's a little unrealistic now, given what happened here, and that I've lost everything to the Greek crisis).

50 years old married with 3 kids.. My oldest is 18 and he loves r/c almost as much as I do. My two youngest also have just aquired the r/c bug, daughters 6 and 8 years old and they just got two new TT01E's for Christmas.. My wife puts up with my obsession as long as I don't ignore my other "chores"..LOL I am in the automotive industry working as a sales consultant for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge Ram.. been at it for the last 15 years or so.. As my wife says I'm just a big kid anyway so this is perfect for me. I belong to a club of sorts that runs races/bashes every saturday night and funny enough I'm not the oldest person there. Its a family event and my kids all go and sometimes my wife will come as well.. I've been into this hobby since the late 80's with ground r/c and since the 70's if you count airplanes.. My first nitro was a USA-1 and a Burns Buggy.. followed by a bunch of tamiya's.. Very happy to see where this hobby has gone and its only getting better. Most of you don't know about 10 minute run times and 20mph as being fast.. or better yet the thrill of getting a nitro engine to start and stay running! Everything is so much easier now. 70mph speeds are common place and 30-40 minute runs are the norm.. and they don't break just by looking at them..

Im 30, I take care of adult things but see no reason I cant enjoy RC's and super hero cartoons!
used to be self employed installing flooring, but not enough work to keep busy the past few years. Now I work at a hardware store. Wifey is a school teacher.
I have 2 kids....my boy is 3 and likes to turnmarshal.

I think more boys (at least in my area) need to be shown hobby grade RC's. Too many play Xbox or other gaming systems for hours, but dont get outside and have no idea how to pull something apart and put it back together again! Even the kids I meet that do have a hobby grade rc, dont know how to repair it and dont have the confidence to take it apart and figure it out for themselves. Its sad really.
My boy will know how to fully disassemble stuff and repair it, cause Im gonna show him how!!!

Sometimes from other parents I hear "oh but those fast RC's are so expensive"
yeh, how much did your son's xbox, all its games, the gameboy and that stupid Ipad cost? None of which teach him anything. sure, they are all fine for recreation and are fine in moderation...but recreation (especially for kids) should have some eductional value.

The stuff kids get into these days, the things they say (or rather, what my wife hears at school) they clearly need some more wholesome entertainment[&o]

On the real car side.... turbo charged volvo 740[8D] cheapest Rwd turbo cars you can buy...built like tanks...handle well....can be boosted above 200hp fairly easy. Some guys boost them to 300hp on stock internals! Cant beat an older "turbo brick" for the money.

Almost forgot.. My real full scale rides.. I have a demo from work which is pretty much whatever I want to grab at the moment, but since I live 35 miles from work and have to pay for gas, I stay away from the big v8's... My wife drives a Dodge Grand Caravan Minivan.. but she is a cool soccer mom.

RE: Interested in finding out average age and demographics of current RCU Users

I am 48 years old and have 5 children and now 3 grand children (one boy two girls). I managed a toolroom for many years and now a set-up tech. I was an adrenalyn junky for the last 20 years and have settled down now as I am getting older. Actually since 2007 my full sized toys have been getting reduced, and my R/C collection has increased. I used to race quads (honda 4 wheelers) almost every weekend durring the spring, summer, and fall. Sold them all. Durring the winter it was snowmobiling, mostly recreational, definitly hard core. Used to trade for a new snowmobile every two years. I like to drive a fast full size american made whatever (06 GXP now). Up until 2010 I had a skate park set-up above my garage. It was chuck full of vert ramps, gaps and rails. My oldest boy was into skating so we built it and skated the heck out of it. Eventually all the kids were into it untill they grew up and moved on. I was actually quite glad when this phase was over because it was taking me many days to heal up from a crash, more so than when I was yonger. Tore down garage/skatepark and built new garage in 2010. I still have our 18 foot sport boat(2005 Maxxum) although we have not put it in the water for two years now. Racing nitro dirt oval has taken up the time we used to spend on the boat. All three of my boys used to come racing with me. It is and was one of the best things we ever did together. The two yongest boys still came racing with me last summer, and still plan on going this summer. They will both turn 20 this august.

My only grandson is 4 years old. I have been trying to share the hobby with him at this young age. He sits next to me while I am working on my stuff and asks questions. He shows much interest into the hobby until I break out the Nitro. As soon as I start a Nitro whatever up, he takes off screeming like a little girl. [&o] Bummer. He has 3 cheep electric toy grade r/c cars he likes to play with. He always asks me to get my truck out, I start it, he's off screeming. I got my electric B3 out last time he was over, he did not screem or run and hide. Damn, I think this kid is trying to convert me over to "flashlights".

33, and location is under my handle on the left
and unlike most people who say they live there I actually live in the terrible crappy ass city not 150 miles away...

As for what I own I own more electrics then nitros, but I chalk that up to initually not finding an electric I liked anywhere near as much as the nitros I bought
My 1st nitro was a MT1(now a MT2) loved it but it broke literally every time I ran it. Its currently donating its front end to a project I am working on
2nd one I liked was a Savage, just the engine gave me issues when the con-rod snapped replaced the eninge a while back with one I got off a used truck, but have yet to try the engine I popped in
3rd one I liked was a jammin X1x CR Great buggy

Electrics I have like 15 or so... Having issues counting as I forgot what I owned

Only like one thing about electrics way more than nitros and that is how much easier they are to modify or scratch build as I don't have to worry about a gas tank, and there are more varied transmissions types.

Side note my favorite electric RC would probably be the Tamiya DF-02. Funny thing is I own BL RC's the ESC, and motor alone cost more than the entire DF-02 buggy, but its one of the few electrics I truly like to run alot, and when I go out it always comes with as its also my most reliable electric
With great speed comes greater repair bills.

30 years old from Brookville Ohio. I run a little bit of everything, just for fun at the moment. No racing, although i miss it. Planes, helis, surface, yadda yadda. My favorite would have to go to my Savage X, although i really like flying helis. Been into RC for around 25 years. Work for a residential/commercial tree service.

Hello I am a newbie to the RC world and maybe one of the older here, 61.We live in western part of NC with three grown children and six grandchildren. I am retired on disability and have the role of house hubby with the wife still working. Spend my time with a lot of honey-do's and fair amount of yardwork. My wife had encouraged me to find some hobby and when the funds allowed, purchased my nitro. I had in the past an inexpensive remote control that was a lot of fun. I have purchased a Redcat Caldera 3.0, 1/10 scale with fourwheel drive and two speed transmission. It was off to a rocky start getting the engine broke in and even had one LHS tell the engine was blown after two tanks. With help from a much younger fella willing to give mentoring the carb settings were correctly adjusted and gotten through the break in process. I enjoy the playtime and with time will get the RC fine tuned. At least my wife encourages me to play when I may be feeling guilty when ignoring some projects. Eager to learn more especially about suspension mods.

I am currently celebrating my 21st anniversary of my 21st birthday. I live in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. I've grown up (depending on who you talk to) in the automotive business starting as a wash monkey all the way to sales and service manager. I am currently in the precious metals buying industry and employed by Pennsylvania's only precious metals refinery. I am married with 4 step kids and my one daughter. I have one grand son and grand daughter that are 3 and 6mos! I've been in and out of RC all my life from land, air, and sea (lake) but mainly land which is safer for me! I'm a Ford guy so I have an 02 Explorer and a 2010 Explorer for the wife. I do have a 93 Civic that I'm doing a head gasket on at the moment and will be the only ricer I'll ever own since I'm 6'8" tall and sit in the back seat. Love gas and nitro vehicles but since my 6yo daughter has shown some interest in this, I may be gettin something electric like some of yinz got!

25 years old, born and raised in the Bay Area, California. No children, unmarried but with a long time girlfriend. Been into RC since around 2006.

I run everything, started off with small electrics as most people probably did but now I can't stand minis and micros. The smallest thing I'll run now is a 1/8 buggy. I love gas 1/5 cars, Baja's, FGs, MCDs, etc.

Lately I've been spending more time with boats and planes though.

i'm 19, single, no kids ( it's sad that i have to specify that...) but i do have a nephew and i have been in the hobby since 2008. i first drove a hobby grade when i was 7. i dont have my license yet but i drive my mom's '05 grand caravan and my grandpa's '08 hyundai elentra when i have my permit (need to renew it). when i get my license i plan to buy an 80's f150 as i'm a ford fan. i mostly stick to 1/10 as it's cheapest. i stay home with my grandpa (severe arthritis, has had a heart attack and has had pneumonia 3 times in the past 10 years. probably diabetic or dang near it too) and get $300 a month to do so, which pays my bills and gives me a few $ to play with.

sir that is not a poor mans sports car, your taste is just too refined for them to grasp. What from talking to many different people of various economic situations over the years I've learned with the vast majority of people that the more money they make the crappier their tastes are. Just look at those high end outfits on runways in paris that rich women love as an example, or how the food tastes in those expensive ass restaurants

I've always wanted a mid 80s transam as I've always loved the looks of them, and I'd probably have one, but where I live you almost need a friggin SUV to get around as the streets are so riddled with pot-holes, and insanely high speed bumps the front end would get ripped off(like on most lower cars). I drive a 98 monte carlo (worst car I've ever owned or driven BTW, and I'd NEVER get another), and that sucker bottoms out left and right

lucky you being director I work security in a mental nursing home where we take people that are literally just above rubber room status, and state laws screws with us as to what we can and cant have them do...

I fly just about anything, mix of gas, nitro, electric. Helis and planks, foamies. Been in the hobby about 30 years. Got about that many aircraft.

I'd like to get back into full scale but the money is a deterrent. (Was USAF pilot during Nam)

My rides are Honda Accord (wife's), Toyota Tacoma (Gotta have a pickup in GA) and a Honda S-2000 (My baby only goes out when it's nice)

Other hobbies are ham radio and photography. No golf.

I am 71. Been in R/C since the late fifties. Before that control line stunt and free flight.
Was drafted into the Army in the sixties and had my Asian vacation thanks to the then president Johnson.
Survived that and returned to the family farm.
Had two kids and lost one due to a bad heart at thirty three.
Been married to the first wife for almost fifty years.

Lv. 41 Nord, live in Solitude, primarily archery and conjuration.....

Ooops sorry hehe 27, NorthEastern Ohio, VERY soon to be married to my dream girl, plans for a kid of our own by 30. I LOVE 1/8 e-buggy, 4X4 CORR, my better half drives a 2wd CORR. Both very competent marksmen (er, people) in archery and firearms, I'm a mechanic of sorts, recently became a self-taught welder, basic fabrication, etc, all from home. I drive beat up 5 spd Rangers and she usually ends up with a nice comfy 4-door. I've flown a 1:1 Cessna for about 60 hours on a series of whims, and while having never lived there, I've seen more of the Caribbean than the states. A man of many talents and even more interests but few masteries. Oh, and Bethesda games. Fallout and Elder Scrolls reign supreme in this household
