Engine Parts Over Priced?
So I was online looking for a new piston and sleeve for my sh .18 nitro engine, when looking up the price for them they were all around $80 range. This confused me, when a brand new engine is only $95. Is this the truth and they are selling piston and sleeves for almost as much as the engin itself? As well, a new carb costs around $45. Thats $125 for the two parts.
What do you guys think about this? Is this the truth? Also is it worth just buying a new engine or just get the piston and sleeve ( I don't need a new carb, it was just an observation).

ran into the same thing when I joined the hobby got a shot .15 in my 1st RC (was heavily used by prior owner) and when I looked up a new sleeve and piston a new engine cost like $5 more
Now on the higher end .21's, and .28s I think the piston and sleeve cost a fair bit less then a new engine, but in the lower end small blocks I find it makes more sense to just buy new.

RE: Engine Parts Over Priced?
Depends on the engine. For an SH or other cheapies, yeah, rebuilding just doesn't usually make sense. But when you have a $200 Fantom FR15 like the one in my TC3 and score a piston & sleeve kit on Amazon for $56, it's worth it. Or my Picco .21, a nearly $300 engine when I bought it; got the connecting rod from Amain hobbies for $32, won a piston & sleeve kit on Ebay for $14 shipped.
Some guys will have $500-$700 wrapped up in something like a modded Novarossi. You bet they'll spend a couple hundred on a rebuild.
