Question Is there such a thing as too much amperage on an esc?

I am building a rc crawler but my esc is 320 amps is that too much? The motor requires only 30-40 amps. Will there be any effect? Will I even be able to run it?

It will be fine, however, I doubt it will be smooth enough for the requirements of crawling. I hope I'm wrong. Its certainly worth trying, and shouldn't cause any actual problems, just may not be the best for the application.
