Losi has come out with their RallyX. It's a large-enough (short-course sized) platform that it should perform off road pretty well. I saw a favorable review. It has the AVC Spectrum receiver that has built-in sensors that control throttle and steering to give you, well, Active Vehicle Control, the RC version of real car stability controls. Supposed to make it easier to drive faster. (and break more parts, I'd wager) I TOO would love to see a good rally car. The RallyX is the closest I've seen, but at $400, a bit dear for my budget. Same for the Traxxas Rally, and probably doesn't have the performance of the Losi.
The thing about a Rally class taking off is, holding actual rally stages would be difficult, wouldn't it? Not many people have acres of property to make their own tracks (I'm lucky). I suppose a few stages could be set up in a large RC track area, but I think it might be limited. I hear it's fairly popular in Europe, tho, where REAL Rally racing IS really popular. Don't know how they do it.
