size and scale
Hello guys, do you know what size of a rc fall into which scale? I see that some company is selling a 458mm buggy claiming its 8th scale and then redcat is selling a 500mm mt and say its 10th scale. can someone please explain what size falls into what category? Thanks guys.

The scale is supposed to be based off the real vehicles equivalent shrunk down.
buggies are generally smaller then trucks
Examples of RC's a 1/8th scale buggy has the same wheelbase as a 1/10th scale SCT, and 1/10th scale ST's are close to the size too
The 1/12th scale MT I owned was bigger then my 1/10th scale buggy which my 1/16th scale revo is close to it in size.
Some companies also completely fudge the scales up (Traxxas is good for this)
Scales are kinda arbitrary too... its confusing I know, but I hope that helps a little

yeh, scale is subjective.
Redcat has 2 1/10 scale offroad trucks...the volcano and the caldera. But the caldera is a couple inches longer and wider as well.
The hpi wheely king is 1/12 scale, but nearly the size of most 1/10 scale trucks.
Short course trucks that are 1/10 scale are much longer and a bit wider than most 1/10 buggies and stadium trucks.
some models that are based on a real-world vehicle may be legitimately "X" scale of the real thing. But most monster trucks, buggies, stadium truck ect are not based on any real vehicle.
Redcat also has 1/5 gas powered trucks...but these are a fair bit smaller than the Losi 1/5 short course truck.
So scale is just a loose number to go by.
