The physical size of the motor is probably a 540 or 3650 (36mm x 50mm) sized brushed/brushless motor. If you are wanting to know how many turns to get for a brushed motor...I don't know the strength of the tranny on your ST. I'd be conservative and go no more than a 15 turn for a brushed motor.

You sure it's the Electronic Speed Control and not the motor making the high pitched sound?

I would like to help you, but this is where somebody that has done this and that to their Ultima ST would be of help. There are a couple of spur gear designs used in RC. I don't have your particular platform's manual of pictures of the tranny, so I don't know what type of spur gear you need, or what type of slipper design is used (if one is used at all).

As far as the shocks go, I'd try and find some original Kyosho shocks for your ST. Kyosho "gold" shocks are pretty darn good at dampening. You could get away with another manufacturer's shocks, but you will need to do your homework for that. Shock caps/shock ball ends/spring cups and how the shocks are mounted will determine what parts are needed for modification.

The first place I'd look at would be the RT5's 46mm & 38mm shocks.

Your spur gear swap desire is a bit challenging without having parts in front of you...or me. That HPI mount looks promising. My only concern would be the diameter of the hole, and how far the mount would offset the spur gear.

This HPI HPI100670 part?
