Traxxas rustler problem
Hi all. Please can anyone help. When I turn my control and car on everything seems too work fine. But if I turn off the control .about ten seconds later the car just goes off on its own full throttle and won't stop untill I switch control bak on or turn car off. I have a castle sidewinder est combo with a fs gt3c which I brought secondhand.
im a new to RC cars and have tried searching but can't find anything.
Thank you for any help

Hi. Well. the first rule when operating radio control trucks, boats, planes, etc is that the controller is turned on first then the model is turned on. When you are finished the model is turned off first then the controller last.
The second rule is to make sure the fail-safe is set correctly. The fail-safe makes sure that the throttle does not go to full speed if the model looses radio signal from the controller.
With the Castle system if it is calibrated properly then the fail-safe will be set as well.
Make sure the ESC is properly calibrated with your radio system.

Hi thanks for the replys . It's a traxxas rustler with castle creations sidewinder combo. It came with no instructions at all. The fs GT controller is very confusing to me but I found some guides on that so started to understand more. Not sure if it's paired right as it already worked. I trying to find info on setting up the ESC. I will search about the fail safe setting on the esc.i think I need to get a link cable to pc would be easier ? And that can set the fail safe ? Thank you

Did you read through my post ?
Once the ESC is properly calibrated with the radio controller the fail-safe is typically set so that if radio signal is lost the throttle will go to neutral.
Now, did you follow the instructions in the attachment and did you successfully calibrate the radio system/controller to the ESC ?
If so does it still go full throttle when you turn off the controller?
The Castle Link is nice to have as you can set things like brake curves especially for a small, light vehicle like the rustler. The link does nothing to set the fail-safe.
Also a vehicle can still work(sort of) even if the ESC is not properly calibrated with a controller that is set-up properly.

Ah sorry I didn't see the attachment. I have done that now and it's not running on its own if lose signal to control. Thank you 😀. Now I'm just trying getting my head around all the settings on the fs gt3c controller. But I'm. Slowly getting there. Cheers

Good !
There's not much in that controller that you need to adjust right now for the Rustler. All you need know are the trim buttons for throttle and steering (G,H,I,J). The 3'rd channel could be used to turn on and off lights, or to control a winch, control a transmission or differential lock etc... if you ever get a vehicle with those features.

Need info
Sorry to reply on someone else's thing but I don't know how to start a new one. I'm having an issue with my Rustler XL5, seen the same issues but no answers or 'fixes'. I can turn everything on and only steering works. I used a volt meter to the receiver port for the throttle and am only getting about 6 volts when I pull the trigger...I'm dumb when it comes to electricity but that seems to mean it's not getting enough power. The battery is fully charged, theres over 9v from the ESC and I dont get any resistance from the motor (seen that on a youtube video that its a good sign). I'm just trying to get some info before I purchase a new receiver or if theres a simple fix. The rustler sat for a about 6months before using it and this was what ended up happening. Any info could help. Thanks and sorry again for posting on someone else's post.

First off , is your battery in good shape and is it fully charged ?
If the battery has sat unused it may be false -peaking and may need to be charged a few times , or it may be a bad battery.
When you turn-on the ESC, what color is the led on it (next to the button) and is the led solid or flashing?
If the led is on solid, what happens to the led when you pull the trigger, release it to neutral and then push it forward?
Depending on the answers to these questions there are a few things to try.

Let me be a little more clear, it flashes green when I reset it it stays solid red and it goes off when I pull the trigger and comes on in neutral. Sorry for the confusing. Also any color, flashing or solid does the same thing, only steering works.

Good, now we know the transmitter and receiver are working properly and the ESC is calibrated to the transmitter.
Test the motor by CAREFULLY connecting the red and black plugs directly to the battery connector (disconnect them from the esc first). Use some jumper wires to make it easier and be careful as it will spin up to max if the motor is good. Make sure the vehicle is off the ground and secured if testing the motor in the vehicle !
If the motor spins up very fast then both the motor and battery are good.
If it still won't work when all is connected back together then the ESC has failed and will need to be replaced.

Ok, so the motor that was in it I guess was bad, I swapped it out because the old one spun up. It ran for about 5 mins and I'm hoping the battery died from messing with it all day, it stopped working again. I'll post if it works or doesn't once theres a charge on the battery. I really appreciate your time. Brought some spark to the hobby again after a while of it just sitting. Thanks again!

Well it's either the motor or the battery or both.
Quickest way to verify the battery is charged is to test it with a multi-meter. However a battery can have voltage but still be bad by not being able to deliver the power.
If you don't have another DC power source to test the motor then buy a new motor and a new battery.
If you plan on running the vehicle you will need them ....eventually.
