RE: !!!!!!!!!OH NO
It depends on quite a few factors.I just bash and I have a mach .26 on it's 5th gallon and it's likely going to make it all the way through the 5th gallon before I rebuild. On the other hand if you're racing 20 minute mains constantly then yeah I could see every 3rd or 4th gallon being fairly normal.Maybe even more frequently if you're looking for that extra 1/10 of a second in serious racing. Not a big deal sleeve pistons are $45 for my engine and a leisurely hour for rebuild.Might even consider one of those sleeve re-sizer fixtures on e ba y to save even more money

LOL,, leave it to the hobby shop to try and sell you something you don't need yet
When do you need to rebuild an engine?? when it's dead,,not an ounce or should I say not a mil earlier
I had a hyper 8-port not last 2 gallons,,serious issues
I have a MT12 going on 8 gallons and still going strong

I would have to agree with both sides of that discussion. YES on average some engine will start losing compression after XXX number of gallons ran through them. So if hobby guy is used to have that certian engine where it start failing more after XXX number of gallons ran through, then sure he will give that has advice.
But then again you could have an electric guy that is trying to understand and sell nitro stuff and maybe he was told it and that is what he now says to people when selling the nitro RC's.
I personally - Say if there is no problems with the engine, "Why rebuild?" I would wait until it needed a rebuild and not do just because you ran XXX gallons through it.
