Is RC car racing a sport or a hobby?
I guess RC car racing is a sport in its mentality (one needs a steady head and concentration) but it's not a sport in its traditional sense. I guess most people would consider RC cars a hobby, but when you race them, isn't a sport just as fishing is considered a sport, or snooker/8 ball pool? So begs the question; Is RC car racing a sport or a hobby?

Well racing is msot definetly a sport, as far as those who just bash, that's more hobby-ish then racing. I put both.

It is definitely both. Though it is also competitive racing, few of us will actually have the money to purchase vehicles and engines that are fully race grade. I myself only bash; I have raced on-road in the post, but I get more fun from off-road bashing. There are many local track set-ups (usually placed on an empty parking lot during the weekend), and these are about the most I've raced on. These are great for me; but I have no desire to race competitively and professionally.

RC's are not really physically demanding enough to be considered a sport. Fishing is more physically demanding.
but when you think of it RC's can be physically demanding when you are chasing a runaway.

R/C car racing a sport? I don't think so. I race everything from 1/18 through 1/5 and it only takes looking around the pits to know that the purpose at the club level is recreational enjoyment. At the "professional" level, it isn't a sport either. It's R&D, marketing, and a business.
Just as breeding tropical fish is a hobby, so too is R/C.

It's hard to determine. Some might say that it is and others may see it another way. I dont think that bashing is a sport but more of a hobby, but even when it comes to racing it's tough to make the call. As for considering fishing and pool a sport I dont consider them sports at all. But I played football, did wrestling, baseball and did martial arts( with sparing I think it is a sport) now those are sports not casting a line and waiting for a dumb fish to bite a hook. But then again I go hunting and consider that a sport, as draging a 110lb deer a mile and a half is pretty tough and you have to consider all that you have with you when draging it to.
But I think the hand eye cordination needed with some mental concentration that is needed would consider it a sport. But then again we may be biased though as we are in the sport, would need to ask people outside of the hobby(sport) to see if they consider it a sport. But I think it could go wither way.

As far as RC, I don't think it is a sport (even though I voted it is both a vote and hobby). It is however sport-like in that it is very competitive. But then again, sitting at home with you friends playing football on Playstation is also just as competitive and just as demanding as RC racing when it comes to hand-eye cordination.

RE: Is RC car racing a sport or a hobby?
I've never considered pool a sport.. it's scary that some people do.
Fishing is a tough call when you think about the sitting and waiting, but when you think about the physical demands of trying to reel in the big one then yes i can be. I've fished once and it's just not my thing too much waiting. my older brother has been deep sea sport fishing and laughs at what they catch in fresh water lakes.
IMO I consider a sport anything that involves major muscle groups and places physical demands on the heart. not just from adrenaline.

i fish all the time, and it's not THAT demanding. of course, lugging 60 lbs of salmon up a hill to my car is demanding, or fighting a big fish with some really weak line and that's about it. but i do consider it a sport though, they do have tourneys for fishing. rc, i kinda consider it both also, you do keep score when you race.

I voted both. Rc is a hobby to me.I dont bash only race but its still just a hobby.
websters dictionary sport= to amuse oneself:engage in a sport a source of diversion:recreation;physical activity engaged in for pleasure aparticular activity (as an athletic game)so engaged in something tossed or driven about in or as if in play
Some people certainly consider it a sport but to me its a hobby...I think some people want to call it a sport because it sounds better to be involved in a sport than to be a grown man playing with toys
I think if its a sport or a hobby depends on the person involved.

RE: Is RC car racing a sport or a hobby?
Hi,
My saying is: if a guy is sponsored, then it is a sport to him. If not, like most of us, then it is just a hobby. Most of us race for nothing but a trophy and fame or a step towards being sponsored. For me, I can support my own hobby and wouldn't like to be sponsored even if I am qualified. Just too much pressure and reliability.
Regards
Joaquim

to me a sport doesn't have to be physically demanding, a sport is competition, seeing who is the best. I put both, it is a hobby to have fun with, but racing i think is a sport.

Nope, If you keep score then its either a game, or a competition. In football they keep score, but some people also keep score in checkers, or solitare, or even video games!

RE: Is RC car racing a sport or a hobby?
Hi
The physical part of RC racing comes from when you have to be a corner marshal. If you are not quick on your feet while your corner marshaling there is a good chance that you could get tagged by one of the 4-15 pound RC's that are doing 30-55mph around the track. I have seen 200-250 pound men knocked clean off their feet because they weren’t quick enough to get out of the way. So don’t go saying there is no physical activity in RC racing.

LOL that reminds me of the last race I was in with my KMI. I hit the corner marshall square in the chest at around 35 mph in air. Left a nasty goose egg in the middle of his chest. OUCH!

i honestly beleive that rc is a sport and a hobby because if you look up what does it take for an activity to become a sport rc completely has all the required things. i also beleive it is a hobby because like i have read in many comments bashing is not really competitive
