RE: Mamod Steam Car
Looking good. I got my first steam engine for Christmas in 1964. I am a big rail fan and got to ride in the cab of a 1928 Baldwin steam locomotive about 5 years ago. I hope one day to drive one.

Yea...
You see the burner tray with the handle in pic 4 and 9 above.
You put 3 fuel tablets in it, and place it under the boiler.......water boils to steam, and drives the pistons...

Going pretty good for running solid fuel. Get a better burner and it will run better. Keep in mind you do have two cylinders but both are only single action. If they where both double action it would all so be better.

RE: Mamod Steam Car
Looks like I'm a bit late I didnt realise there was a second page to the replys. The car looks good similar to mine here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25tDlT6DdHo but of course with out radio control which I'm considering later. But until then I recently got a wilesco steam roller that doesn't go as fast but has alot of power and runs longer than a mamod steam car. with its 1:43 gear ratio it can pull alot with the engine speed at 2000 rpms.

RE: Mamod Steam Car
Could you get a big bottle of co2 for paintball guns and hook it up to the engine and pressureize the tank with air. Wouldnt that work really good. I know most of you guys are probably steam guys but I think that it would work really well.

Probably a lot more info than you wanted to know about the pros & cons, and the how & why
But the simple answer for me is... I don't want to loose my excuse to play with fire.

RE: Mamod Steam Car
Sorry I beat you car already, I took a wilesco steam roller and modified it with radio control and "hyperdrive". This thing can probably out run your car, out pull it, and out turn it probably. This video show it with my modification and with the gears but no radio control yet as it is from a few days ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYdfp76MF6w
