I got another nitro car after 15 years out of the hobby. I went and purchased some new rims and tires today and the bottle to glue them on were 8 bucks. Are there cheaper alternatives?

Krazy glue is CA glue. Any tire and Krazy glue is CA glue.

I go to wall mart and buy the 4 tubes for $1 super glue. Works good for me. I've used that special ruberized tire glue before and not only was it expensive it wuld not flow as well, I did not like it.

Super glue works fine, it is CA glue.

That CA glue will llast you about 10-20 sets of tires, plus whenever there is a crack or something that needs to be glued,, you can always say "CA can fix that!!!"

Ive tried different brands from cheapo no names (well like duratrax [:'(]) to trinity, losi, and aka glue. Dont get the Duratrax CA, I am using Trinity now and I dont like it, cloggs too much. By far my favorite is Losi and AKA- AKA a little more. But you need to buy some extra losi glue applicator tubing as they will work on the AKA CA glue. It dooesnt clogg as much and is extremely accurate with the glue applicator tubing. Also get tire moutning bands.

If you want balanced tires, you need t use high quality CA glue and tire mouting bands. I balanced a set of low quality CA glue (durtrax) and high quality ca (losi and aka) and the high quality glues were alot more balanced after gluing them. So if you dont have a tire balacner, it would be ideal to get high quality CA.

which bottle of CA glue are u using to get 15 sets done? The went through more than half a bottle of mine in just 2 sets.

Are you going around the entire rims on both sides or just dapping?

I like AKA. With the AKA glue and Losi glue applicator tubing, a little tiny bead thru the whole tire with tire bands and it will last a LONG time.

Also how's everyone glueing their tires to the rims? I got some chrome rims and the tires I glued on last night flew off while I was driving. I cleaned the entire rim with alcohol then glue it on.

I hear some use sand papers, is this the preferred method?

It really depends on the quality of the tire. On AKA tires, all you have to do is rub it with alcohol. On lower wuality tires like Proline, you might have to do a little dremmel on the tier tire and definitly dremmel the patch where the tire will it will be glued. What car is this going to be for?

ok my next question is how the heck do you remove the old tires and prep the rims for new ones?

I've been trying all day to remove the old tires on the rims with no luck. (not the one that did) it's the one that came with the car. I'm heading out to HD to buy some abs pipes to make drift tires.

I tried the boiling method on wheels for my NTC3. Big mistake. Rims distorted and glue still didn't seperate. Seems to be the type ofplastic. I think boiling works on nylon rims which are what's usually used on buggies and MTs, etc. And larger nylon wheels being more expensive, it's worthwhile to boil them, but i've really given up on the boiling method. I've also tried CA glue remover (which is probably acetone), but it doesn't work well. Neither does straight acetone.

Now I buy mounted foams for the 1/10 touring cars. For the bigger vehicles, I generally buy new rims when I buy tires, but I have found a method that works for me:

Cut the tire off and remove as much rubber as you can. You will need to make a small wheel rim adapter. I made one out of a bolt with the right size hex head on it (to fit the rim). Used a bolt with a long shank and cut the threaded part off. Drilled the top of the bolt for a small machine screw. Mount the wheel on the adapter and chuck it in a lathe (or a drill press could work, but you will have to gear up some kind of "steady rest" ). Get the wheel spinning and hold a small flat-bladed screwdriver against the rim groove using the steady rest. The rubber will get picked out as the rim spins.

hey boiling it works for me.

I first put it on high to bring to a boil them lowered it to a medium low. Boiled for about 15 minutes and started to remove one by one. The tires came right off. Any rubber remaining, I used a small flat head that had the width of the grove and slide it along the edges like a chizel and chiziled away the excess.

I guess my next step is to sad it down and glue the new tires on.

I also noticed that the stock rims that came with my car had a bigger diameter than the HPI one that i bought. I got some ABS plastics from HD on sale for 4.50 for 10ft and made my first set of drift tires. I had to use the HPI rims since the stock rims wouldn't fit.

This is what I (and alot of poepl do). Go on a big race day and the pros will throw away their 1 run tires. So when they are bald and you are buying new tires, you would just cut as much tire off the rim as you can, and soak the wheel in acetone for a day with the lid covered. The remains of the tire just slides off.
