MegaP part design changes - MXB, Viper X2S and ??
Phil G and I have been comparing parts between his Viper X2S and my MXB-3. We have also been talking with Eddie. And we have found that some of the parts have been upgraded in the last year. I bought my MXB last spring and bought spare parts a year ago which I have not had to use yet. Phil bought his X2S earlier this year and bought spare parts recently. Comparing our vehicles and parts, we find that there are parts with the same part number that are different. And they are different enough that they are not interchangeable. The parts we have found like that are as follows.
903-015 front steering arm
903-019 transverse driver shaft (the front and rear dog bone/drive shaft from the diff to the wheels
903-013 axle
903-058 rear hub carrier
Pictures are posted below for reference, although I do not have pics of the rear hub carrier. Here is how you can tell whether you have the old or new generation parts.
steering arm - old generation inside bearing is sunk inside the arm - new generation is flush on the inside
drive shaft - old generation is about 3.9" (99mm) overall length - new generation is about 3.4" (86mm)
axle - old generation is about 1.3" (33mm) overall length - new generation is about 1.8" (46mm)
rear hub carrier - old generation is about 0.42" (11mm) thick where the bearings mount - new generation is about 0.87" (22mm) thick
If you have the old generation, new generation parts will not fit. To switch to the new generation, you will need to replace the front steering arm/fron drive shaft/front axle as a set or the rear hub carrier/rear drive shaft/rear axle as a set.
I know this is true on the MXB and X2S. I assume it is also true on the MTR, but do not have first hand knowledge of that.

Interesting......
Its not uncommon for MFG's to make "running design changes",,,,,but it's gonna make HimotoRacingUSA's life a lot more Hectic as folks get the New stuff when they Thought they were getting the Old.....LOL...Good Luck Eddie!
Eddie.....that explains those wrong Axles I got a few months back (we couldnt figure out what the Heck they Fit on?)
Looks like they are X2S axles......
The MTR is the same as the MXB.
The MXTis probably in the same Boat as well.
On the Bright Side,,,,,,the new Hubs look Stronger than the Originals.....
The Front steering hubs are the only thing I have ever Broken on my MXT-2S.....

I just recieved 2 packages of drive shafts for my X2S and the ones I recieved were much longer. My originals are about 88mm and the replacements I recieved were 99mm.

Brian it looks like you need to change the hub at the same time as the CVD's............it looks like thats where the difference is at [X(]

I agree, John. I think I need to change the hub, axle and drive shaft all at the same time. But with Phil's latest order, I worry that the parts "in the pipeline" are from different vintages depending on whether they are axles, shafts or hubs.

Phil pointed out that the parts he got say "2008 edition" on them. Any chance the newer parts say 2009 or something?
I do not envy the task of sorting them out. But if there is anything I can do to help. I would be happy to do so. I can at least differentiate between the old and new.

Yeah I am having the same problem with RXT parts. I ordered a new set of rear shocks and the mounting hole in the top shock cap is much larger. I spent $24.99 plus shipping on a set of shocks that I should just tie to a 1/4 stick and light it.

I am not aware of any RXT changes - I have purchased numerous spare parts for min without any problems - although I did not get new shocks - Eddie?
edit - can you use the shock caps off the old shocks?
