Bad Hobbytown Usa Experience
OK, so I brought my RS4 into hobbytown, in allentown, for service. When I got it back, I opened up the gas tank to find little shavings of metal and nuts had been put into it. Whats more, they connected my servos backwards and unplugged my receiver. They even left part of the pipe uncovered so it would leak!!! THEY SABOTAGED MY CAR!!! and, when I took it back to show them, they denied even working on the car!!! I had to pay them $100 for the services!! well, I boycotted them, and so did all of my friends. EXPENSIVE AND DISHONEST=HOBBYTOWN USA

Do you think they were just using the tank as a container to hold the nuts/bolts, or what? If they had metal shavings in the tank, I guess they were saving those too huh? Do you have a reciept to show them they did in fact repair it? If your RX doesnt have reverse polarity protection, theres a chance your RX is FRIED.
I wish I could say I was surprised- but the more I dont go to my Local Bend Us Over, the better off WE ALL ARE. Trust me they probably dont know any more about the car than you-maybe less- learn to fix it yourself and you'll be MUCH farther ahead.

no, it wasnt protected, but I caught it before the radio was turned on, and what moron puts shavings in a fuel tank??? I didnt get a receipt, and so I guess that was my fault. yep, and I primed the engine, the shavings reached the carb, and I ripped the fuel line off and cleand the engine. The guy that worked on my car goes, "yeah I dont know a thing about these cars"!!!I guess some humans, especially that imbosile, did come from apes.

Lesson learned right? Good, use the manual from now to save you the hastle. In most case's some of these low lifes actualy make mistakes like this just so you have to spend more money at their shop for repairs, new engines and so on. See what Im saying? They are crooks, not all of them but alot of them are!!

i have always fixed my car myself but with my hobbytown usa i have never had a prob. everyone is very knowlegable and when they are done you go outside with them and test it in the parking lot. so, it must be just yours.

hobbytown eats ass
i hate hobbytown usa. they have never been any help whatsoever. i went to them to buy a plane to learn how to fly and they sold me a gws zero. with no flying experience that flight didn't last very long and was very expensive (stripped servos, destroyed motor, etc).

Besides, the nitro cars are generally labor intensive machines. I would say I work on my buggy twice as much as I drive it, so at some point if your going to stick with this hobby, you have to learn to LOVE working on the cars.

Another lesson to be learned here is stick to the owners manual, read carefully and understand the contents as well as instruction. Learning and hands-on experience on how to fix your car by your self will save you a lot of money. There are a lot of reading stuffs from the internet on how to do a routine maintenance, repairs, tune ups and etc. for your car/truck/buggy. Visit the website/s of your car manufacturer (i.e. HPIracing.com, yokomousa.com, tamiya.com and etc.) for reference to your maintenance and repair. There are instances that employees of your LHS does not even know how to fix a car. As for me, I learned from mistakes of trial and error method, but once you gain the knowledge, you will be far better than the "mechanics" from any other hobby shops. Most of the shops will try to ROB your money and you ending up not satisfied to their services.

Wow what an idiot... i am lucky. My lhs is great. There are about 4 or 5 car specialists who all know these cars inside and out. I dont know what i would do without them. They fix stuff for me, and will tune my cars to run perfectly when i am having trouble, and they dont charge a thing to do it.

Its all about the people...
Whats in a name? Nothing! I wouldnt avoid all hobbytowns because of your experience.. just yours!
I noticed the other day that hobbytown doesnt accept refunds n stuff.. you gotta return it to the manufacturor.. it said so on a lil poster thing.
It makes sense because the supply chain for this hobby isnt that big to allow this.
That comment he made was pretty sad and the condition of your truck is prety surprising!
I have had a great experience with my HTUSA. I kinda hang out there because there are a lot of cool people who work there.
I dont really buy much there because I can get most of that stuff for less elsewhere so I'm not really an important customer! lol.
But heck, businesses dont give a hoot about customer loyalty or satisfaction.. All they care about it money. And all you should care about is your money and drive a hard bargain!
Write to HPI and tell em what happened. From what I hear, HPI is not too hard to deal with.
Let us know how it goes!

While ours does have its faults, like telling you they'll order something, then
not doing it... and selling off your special order parts before you arrive, if they DO...
I will say that there are definitely a couple of knowledgeable people there,
at least when it comes to cars, and helis. I think another lesson you need
to take away from this thing is: "ALWAYS... always get a receipt".
It's the sort of thing that's just a "given", honestly. If you pay, you get a receipt.
If you don't, it's never better than your word against theirs, if there's a disagreement.

I just ordered a bunch of parts from my hobbytown and they were expected to come in today so I could race. Well guess what?!?! They typed a few numbers in wrong and only one of my parts will be coming. Good thing I have another hobby shop with in a 30 min drive.
