The girlfriend thinks RC is too expensive.

Probably time to take up flying RC jets. See how she likes that!

What, exactly, might she conside a cheaper hobby?

I've got several hobbies and RC's are, by far, the least expensive overall

just tell her jewelry, purses, and the 2000 different pairs of shoes are too expensive.

I love how women look at a guy weird when he plops $200 down on a RC but its perfectly normal and of to buy a Coach purse for $300 which is just a few pieces cheap of cloth sewn together. Or even a ring for $1000 that does nothing but sit in a jewelry box and worn only when they go out because they are afraid they will lose it any other time...

My other hobby is keeping freshater fish so far I've blown around the same total on that than my RC's.

My motorcycle needs $500 worth of work. Not all is needed but I want a gps handle bar mount and some other goodies. My Guitars were just restrung and had teh necks straightened and now I am looking at $50. in fuel and some nececeties for my nitro sport.

Good thing is my wife realized early that the trade between being a good husband or being an cheap husband is favored on her side.
I go out riding my motorcycle every weekend in the summer, and bASH MY RC TRUCK IN THE WINTER. For the most part I dont watch sports or stay out late at night.

I spend my cash but I take care of the family , so she will give me a face when I drop more cash on my hobbies but , only after the bills are paid.
Quit your *****ing.

This is my cheaper hobby. I used to be into modifying my real cars. Talk about expensive. Brembo this, FlowMaster that, K&N this and so on. Hell the thinks the RC stuff is a way cheaper alternative. She even got me a Savage for Christmas.

My wife does scrapbooking and has a closet ful of stuf for it. When she asked me to quit my RC racing, I told her I would when she quits scrapbooking.
She hasn't said a thing about it since.

I used to do dirtbikes and snowmobiles, and this is much cheaper (and takes up less space).  If you do things right you can actually make money selling this stuff if you are lucky.

This is a cheap hobby because Im also into sportbikes. Own a Hayabusa with plenty of motor mods, polish this, painted that and carbon fiber thingys. Trust me, she loves the RCs.

All hobbies are expensive.

Until a month ago, I used to be an avid motorcyclist. I crashed and broke my leg badly on Nov. 22. (Happy Thanksgiving) At one time, I had a couple of bikes worth about $15k.

The hospital bill to fix my leg was over $30k. (thank goodness I'm insured)

Now I'm back to my safer hobbies: RC, shooting, and woodworking. All of which are cheaper than motorcycling and the eventual crash.

But regarding this kind of thing, here is your best bet to keep the peace: Work out a budget where you each get an equal amount of play money. She has no say on what you spend yours on, and vice versa.

If she's a girlfriend, she has no say anyhow, and if she's already giving you crap about how you spend your money, it might be time to drop her and move on.

I stopped the continuing projects on my cars (sold the Integra finally) for RC and I still catch hell for it. My RC replaced this:

The point is

ThunderbirdJunkie is into guns, RC cars, ancient Japanese motorcycles (newest one is a '79), and 1:1 cars/4x4s.

She said "Why don't you pick a cheaper hobby?"
ThunderbirdJunkie responded with "Because cheap hobbies are boring"

And AutoXMan, if ThunderbirdJunkie had the room for a Mk7 or T-bird TurboCoupe there would be one occupying the space

I use to hear about the $$$$ I spent on RC. One day the GF got a look at a machine shop invoice where I had a SBC bored, decked etc for my 1:1 car. She was happy I had XXX number of RC's instead of buying another 1:1 project.

That peace lasted for a long time. Eventually it started up again so I bought her a Slash and got her into the hobby. No complaints since...

Try DJ'ing. Now THAT'S an expensive hobby especially when you do it for fun and aren't a professional.

I let my gf drive one of my cars for the first time yesterday. As annoyed as I was that she kept crashing it, I toughed it out to try to make her comfortable with it. We'll see how it goes this weekend when we go out bashing. Fingers crossed.

Not on-road nitros per se. Had I crashed it that would be okay but when she crashed it, I felt the cars pain.

*cough* to entice people to come in and think they are a fully stocked LHS *cough*

I rarely crash my on-road stuff, the off-road, that's when the LHS comes in handy but rarely do I need something for my on-roads. Maybe it's just me. *shrug*

Do you have a computer radio, so that you can set the throttle endpoint and limit her speed? That certainly helped my mom feel comfortable when she was trying my (stock) Stampede, which was way too fast for her.
