SC10 RS question...

I just got a brand new SC10 RS!
happy camper, you bet (tho many campers are not that happy, but that is a different story)

ive had a brushless sc10 before, but not a stock BL system.

my question is with the XP 700 brushless system. does it hold up well on 3s?

out of the box the truck is quick on a 2s, and seems like it could be geared up if I wanted to (but I don't, as I often drive offroad)
but there are times I will want more speed, both on and off road. will the ESC/motor handle 3s offroad (with stock gearing)

I ask because I haven't owned this BL system before, and I have seen a few of them on ebay for cheap....making me think maybe they are not that great of a system.

I need to buy a RPM bumper, but man do I love how a fresh SC10 handles!

My brother has one. He melted the stock set up on 2s. Watch the temps of the motor. we have not tried 3s, but he only drives his on the track. Going higher gearing, for short runs will be OK, but again, watch the temps.

Buzz.

wow, did the ESC melt or the motor???

I'd watch that plastic diff. 3S might bury it...

plastic? I thought the whole thing was metal?

Pretty sure it's plastic... I could check later tonight when I have access to that stuff...

The motor fried, then the ESC. If you did the spit test, instant steam. WAY over 200 degrees. So he ended up using the motor ESC from his Razor. Plus he bought a new SC10RS and now has a full back up truck.

We drive our trucks on the track only. So I can not say how well the 3s would do in a bashing situation. I have a Slash and Razor for off track fun.

ive found racing can actually be harder on motor/esc....especially if it is a short track with lots of turns. lots of hard stopping and accelerating can cause more heat than general bashing.
still, I hope mine holds up well. I will take a temp gun with me next time I bash and see what temps it runs.

It did take 4 back to back 5000mah lipos to melt my brothers motor. Yeah it was SMOKIN hot. As you can see in the vid, it has a good mix of speed and turns.

Here is the track. It is the only one i have been to so I can not say if it is big, little or medium sized.

id call it a large track, at least compared to the one ive run on.

but running back to back packs can cause heat build up. I know I can get around 20-30 minutes on a 5000mah pack. still, id think on the stock gearing it shouldn't burn up. but 1.5 hours of straight running could over do it.

I was bashing the sc10 today, until one of the tires started to come un-glued. to make it worse, I didn't realize it right away and was driving in a sandy area...now there is sand inside the tire that I will have to get out before I can re-glue the tire!
