I'm still fairly new to this grade of car, and am looking for any info on how to service and fill the oil shocks on old Kyosho Turbo Optima and Kyosho Ultima.

Any input on oil weights to use?
I has an unopened bottle of green traxaas stuff that is who knows how old.
It was still better then the chocolate milky stuff I dumped out.

That would depend on where you plan to run it. It's a heavy car. We used to use 40 wt for racing offroad. Cars were a lot slower then. Jumps were smaller. You'll just have to try something and go from there.

It is pretty heavy this car. With the body off, it weighed in at 1.667kg with the battery. Interesting enough, it has a 34/66 front to back weight ratio.
I have switched to a brushless motor so it is much faster. As for how I will be driving it.... It will be light bashing more then anything. I don't want to destroy it, so I'll be staying away from the big jumps.
I had a big issue with traction on the rear which I can say was the shocks prior to my changing the old oil. I didn't get a chance to test the clean oil in the shocks as my radio batteries where too far gone. The old AM radio doesn't like lack of power. Will try it tomorrow pending weather to see if the rear sticks better.

This is my old T Opima. This was taken in about 1990. The wing is laying there somewhere. We were oval racing that day.

I take it the rear wing broke off pretty easily on these cars? Mine was broken off as well when I received it.
Did you do the conversion from chain to belt? I took my chain off after it locked up on me at full throttle. Stripped both the outer counter gear and center gear clean and nearly flipped the car.

Yeah, they ripped my wingy thingy off the back. It wasn't really a wing, more of a kick up at the back of the body. I just put an after market wing on it. It has to have something back there or it just slides around. It does have the belt conversion in it. I got tired of adjusting the chain constantly. Belt takes care of that little problem. These things were the bomb in their day. Their a tank by today's standards. O well, they're still a cool old car.

Any of you Kyosho boys know what shocks I can use on the rear of my Scorpion? The 10mm clamps have failed and they're really expensive to replace so wondered if any later Kyosho shocks would fit. Thanks in advance.

Clamps as in the preload clamps? These from what I have read commonly failed on the Kyosho Ultima I own. I used zipties which are a pain to get perfect preloaded with the spring on, but do work. I have found that there are some aftermarket ones on eBay.
Alternatively, measure your shocks from the center of the mounting holes and then look for similar lengths.

AE rc10gt shocks fit on the optima. I just went downstairs and checked these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Associated-8...item5af76091aa on my Kyosho shocks. they work fine on the kyosho gold shocks. I don't like them and use the kind with the screw in them, but these will work. If you have the red kyosho shocks.....you need new shocks. The red ones are terrible. I'll give you all of those you want.
I just looked at "kyosho scorpion shocks" on ebay. the ones on there look like the red ones, just not anodized red. I think they were 8mm. There were these for 10mm shocks. kind of pricey, though. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Kyos...item4d146d0c8a
I'd get some of the ae preload spacers and try those.

can anyone tell me size of o rings needed for the kyosho red anodized shocks so I can get some for my restoration projects. is pure silicone oil any good as shock oil for non race cars
