Default Rc10 Gold pan rebuild

I've been working on getting my RC10 running again and thought I would share. I am the original owner. I bought it at the end of the 1980's and it hasn't run since 1994 or so.

Pulling it out of storage

It is an all original Cadillac model with a ton of nasty gunk on it and a few parts installed wrong and a few others broken.

My goal is to make a cool little basher out of it.

With some help from an rc10 forum I was shown a few things I did wrong assembling it and I have replaced a few broken parts.

In its current state.

Thanks. I'm still waiting on a few parts and paint.

When I test drove it, I used a tenergy smart charger and two different 1500 6 cell batteries.

It is much slower than I remember, so I had to do something. I didn't want to go overboard, but I thought it would be great to have reverse and some power. I want at least as much power as it had when I drove it almost 30 years ago.

It isn't going to be a shelf queen so I ordered a hobbywing 1060 ESC to replace the old MSC , a HPI 15t motor, a 2S lipo, and a 7cell 3000mah battery.

Im hoping this setup will work well enough to be fun.

Looking good. I think you will be liking the ESC and motor you picked up.

I really am so far. I had a 3s lipo, so I ran it on the stock motor just for kicks. It was uncontrollable at full throttle at any speed in the dirt. It was a blast.
The ESC works great. The brake is excellent and the tab swap for control and battery options is nice and simple.

So far I have run the 15t on my 8.4v NIMH pack and it is really good.

Most Associated dudes would cringe at what you are doing . I, for one, think it's great that you are able to fully enjoy a running RC from long ago. Just don't get too crazy with the motor selection and you should be kicking up dirt for a long time.

Yeah, it wasn't shelved when I bought it new, just wouldn't be right to do it now. That mess I cleaned off it had been on there since 1995 or so. It lived a hard life. It's back at driver status now and I remember how fun it was. The ESC an power admittedly have upped the fun level infinitely.

That said, I felt a little bad beating on it, so I bought an rc10b3 to continue motor and battery testing on, and drive recklessly.

Too many stickers and dirt caked in all the wrong places, reminds me of being a kid.

Nice one . I know practicaly nothing on how much power that tranny can handle, or the info I read has since gone bye byes.

Was that a new set of gears you started out with?

I have read they can take a little power, just not brushless or extremely stout motors. I didn't crack the transmission open when I cleaned it up, so it'd the same gears I assembled 27 years ago, lol.
I was running pretty hard on it. I'm going to put it back together and avoid putting lipo in it.

After looking back at your pictures, I see you are running a 7 cell battery pack. A LiPo 2 cell pack will have the same voltage as a 7 cell NiMH pack. I don't think it's the battery giving you grief, it's what you have on the end of the ESC's wires...the motor . If you like the little boost that a 7 cell pack gives, then the weight savings of 2S LiPo batteries might be something to take into consideration. Just something to keep in mind as you get your buggies up and running.

I should amend that to mean no more running 3S lipo. I'm pretty sure that and wheelies on the street are what did it.

The lipos were a little to much for it. I rewired it for the tamiya plug, so it will use NIMH batteries from here on out.

Yeah. I've never been one to avoid going overboard just for kicks.
That said, now that I've tried it, I'm going to make this my nicad/NIMH car. Since I have the batteries and charger, I'll just dedicate them to this car.

Nice RC10. I like that you're actually using the car rather than putting it on the shelf

Good choice to stick with NiMh, the car should like that a lot better.
