Default old Nitro MT HPI racing

Hey there..
First time posting here and my first time owning a Nitro powered RC car.. I always thought they were cool but could never afford one. Recently I was given an old Nitro MT. I have successfully gotten it started so I know the Engine runs. Since I am a total Newbie at this I thought I'd post some questions here to get some suggestions on what I should check on the car before I take it out for the first time. I have no idea what the previous history is on the car. The carb and needle were gummed up from old gas. I disassembled everything and cleaned it out.. Put a little fuel in and it fired right up. It appears all the servos work as they should. The pull start is busted so I need to replace that.. Should I get another pull start or one of the roto start starters? I can see it is missing the rear drive shaft (dog bone) and It is proving very difficult to find anyone that has them for sale.. Is my only option to get a old hpi a553 dogbone somewhere or are there after market ones out there or other options? Anyone have some old parts they wanna sell ;>) Thanks for any help for this new guy.. Take care and here are some pics..
