I'm not sure there is any one shock that is the best. I've seen dozens of LB and nearly all with that mod use something different. As long as it fits and it works

you just need one that has the same or more travel as the gearbox front sliders. i actually used an unused friction shock from a Blackfoot3 for one of my lunchies and a 75mm yeah racing for the other

THREAD BUMP! ... and my first post in about 5 years

my son (nearly 5 yrs old) loves to get out my LB and push it around the house. he has done this for a couple years. last year i bought him the mini lunchbox. he and i built it (mostly me) and he loved it. but then, easily predictably, he stripped out the gear box by pushing it around the house.

this year, i decided to buy him an RC car for himself for christmas. after going back and forth with different options, i settled on the LB for a number of reasons. long story short, this is the least modified LB i've built to date (it's #4) but it's perfect for him. the day after christmas we went to the hobby shop and he picked out this metallic blue. again i built it mostly by myself. but he helped turn screws and really liked the building of the gear box.

his kit came with the new brushless ESC (i had no idea, but was pleasantly surprised). but i think i might use that in mine, so i gave him my the teu-101bk i found in my toolbox. i guess it's from mine and i forgot about it.

these are the build specs:
motor: stock
ESC: teu-101bk
servo: RC gear shop standard BB metal gear
servo saver: kimbrough 124
radio: RC gear shop 2ch 2.4ghz FHSS (anyone with a young one would do well to consider a controller with an internal antenna)
receiver: RC gear shop 3ch 2.4ghz FHSS
shocks: stock
5th/3rd shock: reused stock from a previous build
ball bearings

now if i can only teach him to steer instead of just hitting the throttle until it crashes...but that's for another day!

and here is a pic of the stable as it currently stands. my son's, mine, and my daughter's. you can see she's had hers for a while now, haha.

Santa brought Lunch Boxes to me and my son. A great first car for a little boy. My son is 32 and it is still a great new RC Vehicle.
Just finished assembly of mine. He is 1475 miles away in Texas so I am looking forward to see his build progress on the smart phone.
Keeping mine stock for now. This is my third one since the 80s. Just a great model to own, run and display.
The new Brushless/Brushed "bipolar" ESC is a nice surprise from Tamiya but the stock brushed motor is plenty for an afternoon of wheelies.

Definitely go with the Clod.. since Pumpkin has an identical chassis as the LB.. try something different.. !! I got one too, it is awesome.. I run it with 14.4V!

Nice! Not exactly original lol. I want to get both as the Pumpkin was my dream RC as a kid. Even more than Lunchie. But the clod was the holy grail. Well that and the Yamaha Round the World. That is much harder to find though.

I used to have a ClodBuster, back in like, 1993!! I ran it for a while then decided to rebuild it, but since doing that it just wouldn't move... I realised I had connected one of the motors in opposite polarity, but it took me ages to discover this for some reason : /

Clod is a legend.. definitely one of the must have.. there's some weak points on the design, so I upgraded it some, but keep the original spirit of the kit.. it is a great ride.. !

Still loving my Lunchbox! I seem to have rather a lot of them now though...! lol Still using my original one as my main runner though - had a great morning at a local park until too many leaps off the skate slopes cracked the gearbox...! Just the perfect runner/basher

Been putting some miles on the old Box this past few weeks - did numerous laps of the local BMX track on Saturday and then it must have travelled well over 2 miles on the beach this weekend including lots and lots of rooster tailing/drifting on the soft sand - love it!
