Looks like it is time to get some more pinion as the stock one is kind of worn..

Unfortunately, Tamiya only sells the pinion in a package, 18T and 19T..

Any idea if there's any aftermarket 18T that's also 48 metric?

See how worn those teeth are!! Time for the Robinson Racing 18T metric gear...

BUT, I don't have the proper hex to tighten the gear to the motor.. ARGH!! [:@] The Tamiya hex is too small.. I guess I need some new hex driver?! Any idea what kind?!

Is it me or is the hole on the right pinion gear larger than the stock one? I wouldn't run that if it is!

There is a LHS near me that has a huge box of old vintage Tamiya parts. I wonder if i should offer a price for the whole lot? CF parts, pinion gears, metal plates etc.

Optical illusion... both holes are 0.125" in diameter.. the diameter of the normal motor shaft...

Hey guys, just picked this one up on ebay for $61.00 plus $15.00 shipping. Its in pretty good shape except for the scratches on the spare tire holder. I can tell its only been ran a few times. The first thing I plan to do is pull the crappy electronics out. The mechanical speed control is sticking on low when I give it a little gas. But if i give it a little brake it quits. I plan on either putting an old GM V12 that is an expensive limitless ESC for those of you that don't know. Or I also have an MTronics 8 turn limit laying around I could use. I also plan to put in a JR reciever for my JR XS3 radio. That should help smooth things out a little After I get the electrical system running properly I plan to finish the body that was started buy never finished. A couple of questions I have for you guys is, when I was getting ready to run it for the first time I noticed the battery didn't fit in the holder all the way. I had to drill a small extra hole in the end of the retainer where the clips go. Did any of you guys have this problem? Also where is a good place to get some hop ups for this truck? I am not worried about the motor as I know any 540 motor will fit and I have plenty of them laying around. I am talking about suspension and body parts.

$76 shipped?! You STOLE that one... Good job, man!!

Definitely ditch the MSC.. put a ESC on.. put on a full set of ballbearings..

If you want, you can get the recommended Tamiya oil shocks.. they are VERY good quality.. but expensive.. (try to look for them on eBay or one of them Asian sellers, like rcmart.com, etc.) From Tower, they are like $52 a set.. BUT, at Tower, you get those coupons, etc. So the difference might not be so great after all.

This is a list of stuff that you can do for Willy (all Tamiya parts):

http://tamiya.com/english/products/5...ild6/wild6.htm

There's more stuff that you can do for Willy if you want to go with non-Tamiya stuff....

Good luck!! Keep us posted on your progress!!

Get some spare 18T pinion gear (metric) as spares.. as the Willy is hard on the gear.. (keep on popping wheelie / spin up and then land on the wheel.. the shock is pretty strong..) Also get some spare drive cups from the diff.. those will get worn down too!!

Yes, ballbearings should be #1 mod!!

You can also get adjustable upper suspension arm (basically, just links w/ rod ends) Tamiya sells the kit.. then you can adjust camber angle..

Oil shocks would be nice...

Here is some pics of the ESC and Receiver upgrade. Boy!! what a difference. Smooth as ice on the wheelies now. I can even pull a power wheelie at half speed. However I do admit I would like a little more top end speed. FYI, I also have a Kyosho Half Eight (AKA Mini Inferno). I upgraded the shocks on it when I first got it with some 3Racing Blue anodized oil filled shocks. I checked it out and they will work perfectly. So now I need to order a set of those.

One of the best pics I took this weekend...

Willy squat down (check out the rear shocks compressed!) and about to pull a wheelie!
