Thanks for the kind words guys. It's too much fun to leave on the shelf, Willy lives to bash!!He had to have surgery this week to re-attach one of his arms after colliding with my Clod (driven by my 6-year-old daughter). Ran it again today, all the pretty stuff stayed on, but if anything breaks or falls off - that's what hot-glue's for, right???

Well spotted, the wrench is functional. A working winch could be fun....

MIB kit for $80?Buy it!!

cheers,
Rob

Guys, I have a midnight pumpkin restoration project I am working on (same tires as willy) and was wondering what are some good aftermarket tires that will fit on the wheels?I haven't been able to find much info on what fits, and wanted to explore my options before I just got stock ones again.

Pumpkin's wheels are wider compare to the WW-2's wheels.. but they use the same tires.. if you are going w/ the aftermarket tires, the WW-2 wheels might be closer to the standard 2.2" wheels..

nah, don't go stock! if you're gonna buy something you might as well customize, right? if you get the adapters (aluminum tamiya frog adapter or plastic HPI adapter) then you can get any 2.2 wheel you want and a million choices of tires.

Martin - How's that 5.5T holding up on you? Was thinking of getting one myself.

it is great almost to much power. If I go at the stock motors topspeed, and pull the throttle, the front wheels still leave the ground easy...
last week I took the gearbox apart, because I still had those stock nylon bearings in, and replaced them with ball bearings. The gears show no wear or damage, after I emptied 6 or 7 4500 mAh stickpacks with the 5.5 t.
The only disadvantage is that, when you drive it onroad, the body will take a beating, because the smallest throttle movement will cause it to wheely, and go up or over the small wheely-bar wheel. Every corner of the body of my WW is covered with scratches.

So you think the 8.5T will be better for on-road and the 5.5T for offroad? What pinion are you using with the BL - 20teeth?

6 - 7 packs in one go?Did you thermal or anything?

I think hobbywing suggests the 8.5 for offroad and the 5.5 for onroad. I think my set-up is great... with the 5.5 . I don't know what the 8.5 will do, my guess would be that that would also be good fun.

6 or 7 packs not in one go.... I have spread that over a few sunday mornings. 6 or 7 pack after I installed the brushless set.

and yes i use the 20t pinion

Are there any different tire options that fit the standard wheel? Also, do you guys glue your tires to the rim?Ithink mine might be spinning on the wheel a bit.

yes those are the adapters. then you could use any 2.2 wheel that has a hex for the rear and ball bearings for the front. i know traxxas and HPI both have a nice assortment of options.

i do not know of any tires that fit on the stock wheels very well.

always glue.

Me thinks you don't need to glue Willy's tires unless . . . . you use MOD motors, then gluing is needed!

Is there any aluminum version of the HPI front rim adapters for Willy?

Is this a good motor upgrade for WW2?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXGE34&P=ML

I want something that will bolt on without any major mods.  If there is a better one for not too much more $$$, let me know.  Do I need a new pinion gear or anything with this? I do mostly street driving, and occasionally in the grass or on some gravel walking trails.

Yes, that's a decent motor.. should give you about 20% boost in speed.. !

Stock 18T pinion will be fine..

I had a cool idea for WW2 the other day, that might look neat and would save the body a little damage.  Anybody ever thought to wrap the roll bars in some foam insulation, like they have on real jeep rollbars now, or that they use to cover up outside pipes?  It should be pretty cheap and easily attached with some zip ties, would look cool and keep the roll bars from getting scratched up.  Just not sure where to find that material in such a small diameter.  If anybody has any ideas, let me know.

LB, i figured you'd have jumped in by now!

there are no adapters for the front since it runs on ball bearings.
