Working on that one still. I did not want any bling on it. Got some ideas brewing, more to come.

put the rims in the dishwasher, the cleaning tabs are so agresive that it should be able to remove the chrome.
then you can spray them any color you like.
Or adapt the front so 12mm hexes will fit and you can use any rims you like.

Hi guys! Been a while since I dropped in. Just wanted to share that I got hold of my 3rd Willy . . .
and what better addition to the growing family other than a super collectible M38!
Kit is fairly intact other than the brittle tires.
I was looking at the sand scorcher tires. Would that be a good replacement?
It looks to be smaller in diameter.
Plans calls for total stripdown, paint stripping and re-chrome of all springs.

UPDATE: Pics posted!

I am a bit disappointed that tamiya went cheap on the VW body being polycarbonate.
They should have stuck to form and molded it in hard plastic.
Somehow, that lessens it's collectible value a whole lot for me.

I think with the VW body being so high, if it is made of hard plastic, the CG will be way too high and won't be able to corner at all.. ha!

Would the sand scorcher tires fit the W1 rims?

Don't think so.. the Sand Scorcher tires are pretty small.. they are used in cars like Hornet / Grasshopper / etc. WW1's tires are much larger.. I think they are the same tires as the Blazing Blazer..

That's another vintage. Is there any relatively new sand tire out there that would be a close replacement for the W1?

Plus with all of those closely spaced windows I would think a hard body would be somewhat fragile.

Yes, you need to push the pin out to get the hex off...

yep get a solid pin (about 2mm diam. flat face) which just fits the hole and carefully hammer out the pin that is inside.

easy does it

Looks like there's more than enough room for a co-driver and passengers.
Wonder when they'll come out with the body parts.

Can somebody please verify if the 1.9 scale crawler tires (48mm inside diameter) will fit the WR-01 rims?
I can't seem to find local stock and I don't want to order onlineunless I'm sure it will fit the rims.

yep to wide, 1.9 wont fit the wr01 rims, you could change the front axles/hubs of the WR01 so you can use 12mmhex then you can use 1.9 rims with any 1.9 tires.
