You can get a brushless setup from nitrorcx.com.. You can get a leopard 9, 10, 12, or 13T brushless motor with esc for about $60. Hobbywing is also another brand that they carry.. their stock varies..
I use.7.2V NiMH batteries that are rated between 3000 and 5000 mah and you can find some cheap ones on ebay..
Granted most of this stuff is made in china and their QA probably isn't the greatest.. but it's cheap.

Hobbypartz.com is an affiliate of nitrorcx and they have some of the same parts. The leopard combo is sold old and I think it's been sold out for a while now.. You can try calling them to see when they're getting more stock in.. Another option is to get the parts separately.. Hobbywing has a 35A esc for about $40 and a 9Tmotor for about $35.. A little more than the leopard system.. and you'll probably need a esc programming card unless you know of someone who has one.. or they're about $15..
hope this helps.

RE: Tamiya TB-01 Resource Thread!
Finally got my hands on a TB-01 and decided to share my build with everyone here in the forum at the moment I still need a servo and an ESC but will throw a mamba max brushless 4600kv motor, so far I like how everything is made for this chassis pretty well built espcially the metal gears; that could add some wieght but that could be an advantage for a rally car, anyways here is a few pics I took for the build so far.

Looking pretty awesome! Can't wait to see it completed. Not messing around with this build. You've got all the goodies up front

For anyone who might still be looking, it seems that someone finally got around to making aftermarket 'dust covers' for our beloved TB-01 cars. Not only are they plentiful, but affordable!!! I paid over $40 for the last few that I had, but now you lucky devils still hunting can pick them up from a guy on ebay named TEAMBLUEGROOVE; here's a link:

Guess I'm late, but I just placed an order on a TB-01 Chassis!
After going through them 48 pages of this thread, I think I was lucky enough for it to be the Lancer chassis with its metal gearings, right?

One question, does the TG10/TB-01 Long Suspension Arms indeed increase the car's overall width? Can you fit regular tamiya 190mm on it?

It will give you more suspension travel, which makes the car more comfortable in absorbing bumps when driving on rally surfaces.

RE: Tamiya TB-01 Resource Thread!
I jumped the gun on a subaru wrc 2001 prototype NIB on ebay! I should receive it in a week or so. I am glad I found this thread, it is full of great info!
This is my first post outside of the large scale subforum, so here is some background on me. I used to ride my nitro stampede about 13 years ago, then got a Kyosho mp6 couple years later, then micro rs4 when they came out, and I am currently building a 1/5 scale homemade impreza wrc based on the technokit body I scored on ebay (see the large scale forum custom builds)
Since I have a world rally blue 2003 Impreza wrx I could not resist this one when I saw it on ebay. It says full ball bearing on the box, is that true or are there still some bushings here and there?

It should have all the bearings on the drivetrain.. the steering crank setup does not use 5x8 bushings in this kit, so there's nothing there to replace.. (if I remember it correctly)
Good luck and keep us posted!!

RE: Tamiya TB-01 Resource Thread!
Opening the box, and assembly (not much assembly pics, sorry!)
"Tarmac" mode, Tamiya wheels and tires from ebay:
Gravel mode! (too low for gravel but looks better for pics ha!). The wheels are the TB-01 focus wheels, got them on ebay.
And drift mode, only put these plastic tires (ebay again). The wheels are a little too small and offset is not right. I thought the TB-01 wheels were 0mm offset so I bought +3mm offset wheels, end up being all sunk in the fenders. I added a couple small washers between the wheel and hex to adjust slightly (approx +1mm rear, +2mm front)
Drift is kind of fun, Iused to that with tape one the wheels (on my micro RS4) but when I saw the price of the drift tires and wheels combos I thought why not. Plus it looks cool.
And a size comparison pic with my other Impreza build 1/5th scale DIY (see my thread in the large scale forum, I'm in the homemade large scale sticky)

Thanks! Not sure if I'll put the yellow WRC decals, I kind of dig the production model look. For the paint I used Pacra,3 coats ofmetallic blue, couple coats of brilliant blue + outlaw black backing. And I masked the windows manually, was not happy with how precise the precut window masks.

RE: Tamiya TB-01 Resource Thread!
Is it sad that I bought on of these to build? Nah, reminds me of my childhood.
I am a big Lancer Evo Fan, and snagged this off of the bay for $60 shipped.
Pretty much stock electronics, ( S3003 servo, Yokomo 27x1 motor and Tamiya 104 ESC with a Airplane Radio )
More of a fun project shelf queen than anything else.
Anyway here are some pics, I'm not done yet, I have a white Led under car lights coming and LED mirrors...

Thanks. Yeah it is a special paint job on the rims. The body is suppose to color change also, but it doesn't show up well in the pics. When you see it in the sunlight, it really does look good.
The black hood and fender and truck is a cover up for a paint attempt at carbon fiber effects. live and learn huh....
I did have one question, is there a mod out there to fix the sloppy steering?
Here is a chassis shot....

Don't have any personal experience with it, but there are some aftermarket parts for the steering.. for example:

I am sure there are other brands too, but I didn't look..
