Yeee! I just scored a long suspension arm set on ebay! Can't wait to put it on. I remember reading it comes with bushing only and they are not the same size as the bearings that came in the 2001 impreza WRC prototype kit. So I guess I'll have to test out the bearings I have in my spare parts, hopefully they are somewhat standard and I happen to have them

It says brand new, not sure if it is a put together set as there is a CD instead of paper manual. In any case it appears to have all required parts.

Next thing to take care of is the front dogbones, they keep popping out of the knuckle and blocking the wheel from spinning and the steering from returning to center. Especially when you drift it with steering at"full lock".

I did not try to solve the sloppy steering yet, maybe shimming between knuckles and arm would help? I don't quite remember where the slop is coming from, steering linkage or suspension. Probably steering linkage I guess.

Took some pics of the long suspension arm set, it does make it just a tiny bit wider overall and makes the suspension perform much better. Just ordered the correct size bearings to replace the bushing that came in the set.
Rear is borderline rubbing in the fenders, might need to add a bit of camber.

I have a question for those who achieved higher ground clearance on the TB-01. I have read some of your tricks, but were you able to get higher ride height AND increase suspension travel, or are the shocks bottoming out before the chassis do?
What I would like to get is a high ride with lots od travel, kind of like a real wrc car when set up for rough terrain (ever seen a 22B subaru WRC with like 10 inches wheel arches gap lol)
I was thinking of making custom shock towers to get more lift, relocate the upper shocks mounting holes inwards and downwards to increase height and travel at the same time (will also make it softer though, which is ok if the ride is higher to start with). But I also wonder if the stock shocks might be the limitation. With the long suspension set it looks like there will be more travel available (while still maintaining somewhat proper geometry)
What are some good shocks options for increased travel on the tb-01? I guess it should not be too long shocks though so as to fit in there. Just a tad longer than stock, and why not upgraded dampers quality at the same time.

Just made some measurements, the stock shocks are 58mm uncompressed and 48mm compressed (10mm travel). These lenghts are between mounting holes centers.
So I figure 65mm uncompressed lenght should be a nice lenght. I dont have a clue what brands are good so I just did a random search. Smartech makes shocks just that lenght, with 15mm travel. But are they any good? They look like they might be plastic. See description copied below:
1/10 Scale Car Oil Filled Shock Absorbers x 4 Yellow
65mm long between center of fixing holes (eyes) - not compressed
50mm long between center of fixing holes (eyes) - compressed
15mm Diameter
To suit 1/10 scale models made by Smartech
Like the Winner Pro and Winner 1 + many more
Part Number: 11278

Its a good company its from Taiwan they make there parts up to the standards not bad, but I think you should stick to the stock shocks.

I am looking at a set of tamiya shocks off of a CC01 jeep wrangler, but from looking at the pictures it looks like these may be the same shocks as I already have, except the mounting piece at the bottom is longer. If that is the case, it is making the shock longer but with no additional travel... Not what I want. Waiting for an answer on measurements from the seller to be sure.

Well I am like 1h from Quebec city so that would be a hell of a ride, There are not really any places here to run, I just use my driveway lol cant wait to try it on some snow!

I  was thinking it would be neat to have higher profile tires to have a more scale appearance with rally tires (real rally dirt tires are not usually low profile, more like 15 inch alloys). They do use larger wheels on more tarmac setups or mix of tarmac - dirt, but you know what I mean i guess.

And I found these special rims, they have a black band to mimick a higher sidewall. Hopefully the tires that come with it are not glued and I can swap in the rally block tires. Also I think the steelies look is kind of cool. I got gold nuts to blend better with the rim.

And here is how it looks on a car with rally blocks:

And to continue on the rally theme I bought these semi slicks that looks like the rally tires used to look (the tires they put on stages with some dirt and lots of tarmac) . I might use these with the white Focus rally wheels:

Will post pictures when I receive the parts.

Thanks for the advice on the shock, I'll have a look.
I received the wheels, they are nice but have slightly too much offset and they stick out of the wheels. Thy are probably 6mm offset I guess, instead of zero or 3mm which I believe are the size that usually fits nicely.
So I am not sure what I'll do as i really lije how the wheels looks. Might have to find a second wider and old school body Lancia delta or old Escort mk2 would be nice!
Or I find another set of hex to mod and reduce offset.

i am halfway temped to buy that LA kit. well anyways i ordered the axial exo terra shock kit. for what ever odd reason i can only get it to 88mm eye to eye. wich is to damn long its subposted to be at 67 mm i guess i need to tinker with things some more. looks like the axial balls and 3x10 probley best bet is 3x12 machine screws to mount the shocks.

i found some intreasting items. first Gmade has shocks that i want for my tb-01 the mounting holes are 65mm from shock tower mount to arm mount with the arms fully extented. they have a set 62mm eye to eye shocks. theses shocks use 27mm long springs so tamiya touring springs will fit.
second is tamiya makes set of rally rims that are 26mm wide with a +2 offset i do believe that these will fit nicely under my subie body.

that shocks can found at amainhobbies.com

Wow i cant believe theres guys still running this car. HAHA, i got two TB01( well my friend has one but its in my room, so its mine for now)
I first bought the ENZO version about 2 years ago. put it all together and it just say. (think i got a pic of it some where) SO my friend wanted to buy a rc car to match his real car (honda accord) So we ended up picking up another TB-01. The version i got him was a rally version. Sweet i must say

Putting together the rally version versus the onroad version was weird. The shaft and gears are beefy. So what i did was take his car and gave him mine. Hes not really into rc cars at all, so he wont know a difference. I ending up making mine into a waterproof car, Ended up with Traxxas waterproof servo and LRP waterproof esc. Just need the reciever and im set. Ill post pics later tonight of both cars.

So glad people are still running this chassis.

You know whats funny, i got the side kit for my friend and all those peices you mentioned are missing also. Weird, funny how its 2 years old since you posted this.
ORIGINAL: Murd0ck

Igot it off Ebay, but not NIB. It was New butmissing tires, silver can, ESC, dust shield, wing, and decals... Got some sourcing to do.

The pic I posted is what I got. If anyone is intrested PMme. Imaybe able to get them. TB01 kits with missing tires, silver can, ESC, dust shield, wing, and decals.

Anywhere I can get a dust cover, wing, and decals?

More pics to come. Im going to build a Drift version without Foam, and try to lighten it up. Also a RALLY version with foam, dustshield, and rally block tires. So 2 TB01s setup for different conditions!

Being that I have no motor or ESC. Any suggestions on brush or brushless? My budget is around $100 for both esc and motor.

ORIGINAL: Lunchboxer

Did you buy it off eBay?! NIB?

Where's the dust shield / cover?!

Be sure to post some pics!! Good luck!!

Ok guys and girls i have the gmade shocks setup on the rear to my tb-01. i am in love! tamiya shock springs are to narrow. tc3 shock springs look like they will work. the down side of these shocks is there wide your going have to shim the shock so the upper arms dont rub on the shock collar.
also have the tamiya 26mm wide rims the +2 off set with no body rub. major drool factor on that one. i will post pics in a couple of days.

Lady's and Gentlemen, Children of all ages are you tired of your tamiya gearing? if so, i have some news for you! take a tb-evo 3 spur gear adapater and cut the pin grove 2-3 mm deeper. shorten the shaft by 1-2 mm. Presto instant ability to run kimburo gears with some work on the kimburo spur gear of corse.

I just bought an Escort MK2 body on ebay (the two pieces one) for the TB-01!

Now I think I'm going to need longer and smoother shocks so I can run the car up higher. Anybody knows how long are the Tamiya TRF shocks at their shortest and longest of their range? (Mounting hole to mounting hole)

I see that the Tamiya TRF dampers for TCs (part 42102) is listed as 55 mm. In measuring the plastic shocks (that I'm replacing) sitting on one of my vehicles, this equates to a hole to hole measurement as far as I can tell.

Now, I didn't pull my shock out and stretch it to the limit, but with the stock stiff springs, I believe it's at near full extension (holding the chassis in my hand, not resting on the ground).

So I think that the TRF dampers 42102 is 55mm from hole to hole, extended.

Not sure if that helps you though.

I think the next step up would be their front TRF "buggy" shocks, which are 70 mm hole to hole (I measured on my DB01). Not sure what they have in between 55 and 70.
