hi nizmoz
it all depends on your own personal preference as to what you want to use and your budget
theres no point saying get this get that and it being way over your budget
i use tamiya as i have a lot of there rc stuff dotted around my house and garage lol
i would use a tamiya esc and a cheap 2.4ghz radio gear (transmitter and receiver)
and a standard size servo
as you think your electric board is dead you might as well cut the wires from the motor to the board (as close to the board as possible)
lift car off ground place on bricks so wheels are off the ground to prevent the car from taking off
after you have cut the wires to try the motor i would then put one wire from the motor in one of the terminals on the battery
then the other one to see if the motor runs then we can go from there

Located in Abilene, TX. No RC shops around other than Pep Boys that has TRAXXAS parts. I honestly just want to get it running again and have it a bit faster while at it for not too much money. I plan to buy a new one eventually, but wanted to bring some life back out of this guy. I just don't know what parts to buy without some assistance with links to parts.

Update, I cut the wires off the board and hooked it up to the battery, and it runs. Sounds rough though but it definitely runs. So looks like I need the ESC/controller and a servo for steering.

I know this question is kinda worthless without pics, but i have a line on a complete GA that runs. It includes everything as well as the original charger/battery. Whats a package like this worth these days? I'd like to have it, but I dont wanna overpay
Thanks in advance
P.S. I realize the battery is probably garbage by now, lol

Hi all! I'm trying to fix a Golden Arrow that partially works. Forward/backward is OK, but left/right is stuck to left. As soon as I turn on the remote control, front wheel turn left all the way and stay like that until I turn the remote off. I tried a different remote, same thing, so I guess somethin is wrong with main board in the car.
When I opened it, there was a small black wire with one end connected to the same pad as blue wire from the servo, but the other end was ripped. I was unable to find where the other end is supposed to be. Could someone post a closeup of that part of the board (where wires from the servo are connected)? Thanks!

I have a mint Golden Arrow I bought new circa 1989, used maybe a half dozen times then put it up. I now have grandsons and want to start playing around with it again. Bought one locally and a couple of eBay for parts etc so I currently have four in various stages of operability. How do I remove the servo? I took off the bracket but it still seems to be solidly mounted to the frame. The steering does not return to center from a right turn, so I thought might replace. Also how do it open the rear end to apply some lubrication? I have never worked on RC's but I am retired now and thought it might be fun to play around with them.

Now the gearbox is secured is hold together by a shaft and two retaining press on rings that need to be removed using pliers and a bench vise.
I would put in it high speed grease and once I am in would also replace alll the plastic bushings with bearings, this makes a great difference.

I just love this http://rctoymemories.com/2013/04/29/...en-arrow-1987/
Just on the subject of mods and upgrades... having sold a lot over the years, collectors always want the original article. In as new condition as possible. And that's a general rule across all vintage toys of course.
In the case of the Golden Arrow, mint in box examples that are all original, will always be the most sought after and most valuable. The current value of a mint in box Golden Arrow is around the US$400-$500 mark. You may occasionally see one sell for less under auction, there are always blips. But $400-$500 are the highest precedents. New examples are pretty rare.
For a comparison of how rare: original new in box Tamiya Hornets are rare too (as are all vintage new in box RC kits). There are limited quantities left in the world of any classic R/C car from the 80s. But I would see about 7-8 new in box original Hornets come up on the market per year. Whereas I would see about 1-2 new in box Golden Arrows per year.
Used, but clean examples (with little wear) are more common. While old bashers are the most common
So if you just want to experiment, then modding a Golden Arrow is fine. But if you like having things "all original", OR you think you might sell one day, then I wouldn't go down that path (or just get two - one to preserve, one to mod etc)
