What would classify a car or truck to be classic?
I see a lot of Tamiya threads are automatically being moved here.. which is fine, I guess.. but is a re-released a classic then? Since it is still in current production?
Wild Willy 1 is certainly a classic and vintage, but Wild Willy 2?? Again, another current production vehicle.. and not a re-released at all..
I see TB-02 thread is here.. it was still being produced just less than 2 yrs ago.. so does that mean older version of T-Maxx and REVO should be here too?
Confused... [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

I would say the bucketloads of pure awesome are what make something classic. [&:]

If the TB-02 is considered a classic is the TT-01 a classic to? lol!

the tb02 thread was a mistake. the mods asked some of us to do the leg work and find the vintage threads.
i added that one by accident and was supposed to delete it and forgot.
IMO the re-releases belong here.

I would say that anything designed before 2000 should be considered a Classic and lumped into this category. Yes the re-re's are still in production but the basic design is from the 80/90's and they are as close as some people are going to get to classic old tamiya's. I think this section would dry up pretty quick if we waited around for someone to find and build and original hotshot, brat or other.

I agree that the re-re are in the gray area.. I can see them go either way..
But TB-02, Wild Willy 2 shouldn't be here...

I still wish other companies would jump on the re-re bandwagon, but as we've discussed before, it isn't likely. [&o] I could see Kyosho doing it perhaps, but Losi or Associated? Nah...

I would buy a re-re goldpan in a heartbeat. I know a lot of people would be happy to have spare parts again.

To me Tamiya and Kyosho were the ones who really innovated RC back in the day. They really paid attention to detail and scale realism which is why those would be the only ones even worth collecting.

I like those old chain driven Kyosho buggies. I've never even seen one in person, but they look so cool in pictures. I'd love to have one of those.

i say anything older than me is a true classic/vintage but the definition of classic changes things. if it means vintage then i think 80's and earlier but if it means something to the effect of a cult favorite then the things like high end racers of the 90's come to mind then there is the definition meaning that they had a major impact on the hobby like the tmaxx .15.
but the section reads 15 years or older, i belive this should be changed to pre-'95

I've been thinking about this a bit though, and I've come to the conclusion personally that "classic" as applied to RC is more about design and philosophy than release date. For instance, if I started a new RC company, and produced a line of vehicles that utilized trailing arms, solid axles, 32 pitch gears, and hard plastic bodies with driver dolls, I'm sure most peope would consider them classic, or at least classically designed. The threads making fun of them and the quick demise of my company would probably be moved here. [&:]
In other words, when things just aren't done that way anymore in the world of RC, it becomes classic. In 5 years, people might well be discussing brushed motors and NiMH in this section.

lb, i think you'll have to notify a mod.
considering they had us find all the threads so they could move them.
i have seen a few threads that are in general rc that need to be moved here. (vintage kyosho thread and the buggy champ thread)

Vintage means older than 25 years, in rc vintage classes is often 1990 or older. But they called this section classic and not vintage.
I think the tamiya re-re's should be here and stuff like the clod which is using vintage moulds.
