Default Traxxas Nitro Hawk

I havent seen any vintage Traxxas on here yet so I thought I'd post mine. This hawk was in bad shape when I got it a couple of years ago. But after a little work, here it is....

Are you going to keep the Image engines or are you going to upgrade it to a trx .12 or .15? I had the image in a different nitro hawk years ago back in 1993 or 4 when it first came out, and it was a terrible engine. It could have been because it was my first nitro. I just remember it sitting a lot moe than driving it.

That Hawk is nice. A cool white one too.

Those Image engines were indeed cursed. Few running examples of them remain. Most owners went to other engines, and the Image was thown away.

Yes, the Image .12 was a horrible engine, but I just like them for some reason. Sentimental I guess. Here is one I just bought, new in box. Even comes with a packaged incredibly rare Traxxas (not MIP) stinger, which is not installed because it requires drilling the rear bumper. Its the last model released, with the steel clutch bell, pro .15, and updated electronics. I do have several others, including a pair of white plastic Nitro hawks, a Restored nitro street, and a beat to hell nitro buggy I pretty much just use to chase cats.

hey lifeandhowtoliveit, is that a MIP rear exhaust on there ?
I put one on a old rc10gt and it really brought that engine to life. (seemed to me anyway)

lifeandhowtoliveit : Nice looking Hawk!

I have an original (white plastic) Nitro Hawk that I purchased new in the early '90s. I ran the Image 12 without any real issues. I upgraded to full bearings, ball diff, MIP Stinger, and when the pull starter broke I added the cooling block.
Using a starter box or handheld starter was such a PIA I finally broke down and grabbed a NIB, long crank, pull start TRX .15 about a month ago. Had to wait to run her until the TRX brake assy arrived. I've only run 1 tank through it so far; once the weather warms up I'll finish breaking it in.

Back when she was new, my drummer and guitarist also bought nitro trucks; Rampage truck and RC10GT, both with OS .12's. The Hawk and GT were fairly well matched on the BMX track where we raced them; a few times caught air on some pretty big jumps side by side; 3.5' high and 20' long. Surprisingly neither one ever broke any parts on landing.

Nice Nitro Hawk... I have one myself, and many partial chassis for them as well from buying ones off Ebay for broken parts over the years.. Mine currently is only missing shocks or it would be drive-able..
