Default 2948 Hellcat!

just thought I'd post a picture of my new scale bird I've been working on. (I'd post on the rcca site, but I can't seem to get a user name set up.)

thanks guys.

yeah Dane I plan to bring it. I think I've got Bill interested too! I'm working on some cad files to make cutting out the fuse easier. this one was hand cut. with a hot wire bow and templates.

I think this guy will turn with the best of them. these navy birds are all pretty short.

a question for you scale guys, Is she marked up enough to pass the markings requirment per the rules? In other words would you allow me to fly it at a contest as is?

Outstanding!

Yes that airplane has required markings of a WWII Hellcat.

Please post up pics on the [link=http://rccombat.net/forum/index.php]RCCA forums[/link] 2948 section

Perhaps you can post pics of your build along as well.

She flew awesome! Straight as an arrow on launch, rolled ALOT faster than I expected, set a little hot on elevater, flew on rails, and floated in nicely for landing. I really think I have a winner here! Although I will admit this is my first scale bird so I have no real frame of refrance. and I flew with a 9x4 instead of a 10x4(read thats what I have in the box for open b).

In regards to posting on RCCA site. I havent got an account set up there yet. And I didnt take to many pictures while building. However, I think we might build one for Bill, so I'll make sure and take some pictures of that one!

oh in case you haven't figured it out Dane, this is Paul F.

Hi Paul, I thought that was you.

These planes do roll really fast.....sounds like it flew solid which is what you want. Just play with CG a bit and get it to where it will turn really tight without snapping out when you really lean on the elevator.

Now get Bill on the stick and tell him to get one built too.

yeah, one of the first things I did was yank about .5oz of the nose. I was real worried about ending up tail heavy. I think I could still go more. hopefully I get some time this weekend to try it out!

Bill's traveling a bunch this month for work... so I may not see much of him for awhile. but we've been talkin abunch about it. I've also got a p-51b drawn up... he might endup with one of those! we'll see.

edit: for grammer

BLINDFAITHNOGOD,

your hellcat looks like a Zigg's original. Did you build he cowl from foam?

I have the kit without the cowl and am looking for one. I may have to make my own out of foam.

BTW, no fuel, electric on mine.

Not interested in combat (unless someone pi$$ed me off)

It is a scratch build all the way. The cowl was foam... Now, the cowl is a coke bottle heat shrunk around a wood plug. Only the top half of the cowl is plastic. The bottom half is solid foam.

Is the fuselage foam or wood build up?

That also looks like a .25 engine? any markings?

Dont have a clue as to who made it. The engine may be a OS the square carb is the older design carb.

Just go fly it.

My feeling is it was a combat plane from the old days and they were built to take hits and still fly.

Good luck

"No balsa plane in combat takes a HIT and keep on flying!! "

I beg to differ, the early Pica 1/12 scale planes were all balsa and very tough planes. The Corsair and P-51B had many hits and would still stay up in the air.

Of course a strip of carbon fiber on the leading edges did help allot
