Default Os 25 fx ii

Good news,

My travels took me to Japan this week and I visited RC Radicon in Tokyo. I asked about a replacement for OS 25 FX and sure enough there is one. It's the OS 25 FX II. I picked up two. Here are some pics. Will be available later in the US.

Looks like a good setup. Maybe a better carburetor?

How does it run? Looks like it has the needle angled back, like the AX series.

I have 5 of these engines and they all run superb. Unfortunately the only FXII's available are the gold plated editions that cost an extra $25.00. The only place I know of to get them online is RCjapan.com. Unless you want to travel to Akihabara district in Tokyo. I see some FXII's online from US distributors for like $800, Don't be fooled. You can get the gold edition from RCJapan for $275.00

The Weston 25 is available off the shelf and will out turn an OS 25.

Available with standard muffler for 91.88 pounds or approx 110$ US

If local rules allow use the mini pipe for extra power.

I have an AX .25, I don't know why it was discontinued, and then this one brought in. According to the site, the Weston will do 15,900 with an 8-6" APC. That is only a bit better than an FP or good LA .25 which was also discontinued here. At least they are bringing back a .25. A really nice size that is often overlooked. I like the angled back needle valve too. They still use the weak screws holding the carb on instead of the clamp though. I guess they sell more cases that way.

So is the .25 FX II the same as a .25 AX? It does not seem either was made available in the U.S. for very long or if at all. The OS website and Tower show the .25 FX as discontinued. Funny, RC combat is what brought the .25 FX back to market a number of years ago. But OS had to raise the price. The real solution is to just get a Magnum .25 XLS or the ASP .25. They are all copies, and run as good as the OS engine. I would prefer to have the needle on the carb. But overall, it is disappointing to see these wonderful engines disappearing. I feel the OS .25 FX to be one of the best engines OS produced. I have had at least 10 of them total.

I have three Weston .25 size engines. I have had problems with all of them. They all either run too lean or too rich where fuel spits out the size and the engine loses power. Before you chalk it up to my incompetency I'll have everyone know that all the old school RC combat flyers I battle with attempted to tune these engines as well. Most of them are in their sixty's and have been flying nitro combat for over 25 years and none of them could get these engines to tune or work properly. The O.S. on the other hand tunes up and runs great with no problems. I've had better luck with the ASP's as opposed to the Westons.

The FX II has the same compression as the FX at least on my tach. The FXII Copies the AX carb/HS needle design. I always got more RPMs/power out of the FX engines opposed to the AX. So basically the FXII gives the you the power of an FX with the convenience of the angled back HS on the carb.

I'm sorry the ASP is not on par with O.S. engines for the following reasons:

1.) O.S. produces more power than the ASP's. This according to my own taching, tuning and flyying.

2.) The O.S. deign is much more convenient. The ASP carb nipple is too close to the engine mount holes. This makes mounting the engine cumbersome and you risk breaking off the nipple.

3.) After having disassembled and reassembled both engines I can tell you that the O.S. components are of higher quality. I have a lot more confidence in the O.S. engines to Survive mid-airs, crashes and hard landing than the ASP.

The one advantage the ASP does have is it's price. It's only 1/3 the cost of an O.S. but it is not the same product.

I have a bunch of numbers here for some .25s. They were not all perfect tests, some had mufflers, most don't. I have 3 FX .25s but have not run them yet although two are on planes that may be ready soon. All ran on a MA 8-6 and 10% Riches brew (10, 10, 10) except the GMS which was new and tight, and had 5%. It was 16,000 rpm. with muffler. FP .25 control line carb, 15,400 muffled 16,500 open ex., OS LA .25s 15,500 tight with control line carb, and an rc one 16,300 open ex. The AX .25 17,400 open ex. OS FSR 15,500 and 16,500 muffled and not. OS .20 15,000. Magnum Pro Taiwan .28, 17,400. and the Norvel 16,200 (it had an APC 8-6 because I didn't want drill it.) I think it was muffled. We don't have Westons here, I have a Fox that size, but am not interested to get it going as it needs a drive washer, and well, it's a Fox.
