Default Who's Flyin The Tufflight Predator???

I am looking for others out there flying the TUFFLIGHT PREDATOR.
I want to see what you have done to yours.

What engines, props, servos, etc.???

Any mods???

Photos would be great too!

I just built my first one. Used an OS25LA (won't do that again) and spinning a 9x5 APC. I have two HS225MG's on the elevons and an HS81 on the throttle. Model weighs in at just under 3 pounds (needs to be lighter).

Thanks,

C&B

That's not bad, lots of B class planes weigh more than that. Just put a little more power on it. Are you using it for club combat or B class competition? For club a .40 fp would work well. Not great top end but will pull it very well in the turns. For B class try an Irvine.25 with a mousse can muffler or an Ultra Thrust or Jett muffler.

I've built several Predators. No pics right this second but I'll work on that. Like Jimbo said it depends on what you're using the Predator for. If it's just for club stuff with relaxed rules a 40fp or 32f would make great engine choices. If you're gonna fly RCCA rules than the Irvine, OS 25fx or OS 28heli (if you can find one) would all make good engine choices with some form of tuned exhaust. I've pretty much built mine per instructions with a tweak here and there. Probably the biggest deviation that I've made is to install 1/8" fiberglass spars top and bottom doubling the thinner middle spar. This simply allows me to pull more horsepower without fear of it snapping (into pieces that is). Try not to place to much gear right in the center near that thin spar as the removal of too much of the foam will weaken the plane. Outside of that mine have pretty much been stock. They're a great plane for club combat and they are nearly indestructible. If I can scrounge together some pics I'll post them here in the future. If you have any questions let me know........

Default MUCH BETTER!!

Ok, just got my second Predator flying today. This one has tons of power with an OS25FX!!

I cannot believe how wimpy this LA is!!

The FX flew right out of my hand.

The newer Predator also has all digital servos for absolutely quick response. No servos sagging or delays!

I will be replacing the LA very soon.

Hiya C&B,

Micster has been flying the Predator for several months and he loves it. He has a squadron of them now, in A and B class variants.

Mic and a couple other Arizonans went to San Diego a couple of weeks back and flew in a combat match, Mics Predators did quite well, even after a few mid-airs. Here is the aftermath of one of those. Wooohooo!

Here is a link to the combat debrief of that meet.

Too cool, post some pics when you get it ready.

Jimbo,

Yup, he came home with a trophy. Post-mid-air-mortem has us convinced that he came up from beneath and behind the other plane. Micster finished the round after the mid-air, the other plane came down. Micster said it "handled funny" during inside manuevers after the collision. LOL I wonder why. For the duration of the match he switched to another Predator he had with him.

Just FYI, I was over at his place the other night working on an IMAC plane and he was repairing this Predator... looks like new again.

to see more photos of that match.

I left a piece of prop in the gas tank of Cajuns plane one time. That was pay back for removing one of my Rx's in a midair we had not long before that.

I have built two Predators and have enjoyed them very much. My combat is Open B, but I do not travel all over the place entering events every weekend like some guys. I have been in about five events and have had the most success with the Predators, 225MG's and Norvell bushed .25 with stock muffler, turning 9X5 MA. I have had several violent mid-airs and finally had to retire one of the Predators. I have a photo but can't figure out how to get it posted. We have an event upcoming in Cincinnati on Oct 12 and I will be there with my remaining Predator and a Skull Bandit.

Here's my Predator that I flew to first place in the Outlaw class at the 2001 Misery In Missouri Combat contest. OS 40FP, MA 9.5x6, with 2 degrees downthrust, and a farther aft CG. You can read the details on my Predator web page:

Default Thanks Dave!

Hey dave,

I see you found my Predator post. Thanks for your input and photo!!

Now all I need is a couple guys to engage with me! Problem is most guys shy away from combat, they don't want to risk damage to their model.

I thought that was the name of the game, "RISK".

Default RE: Thanks Dave!

Anybody flying this thing? I've not flown combat but the Predator is a blast to fly. I've had a full speed dive crash and a few minor ones. She keeps bouncing back.

My Setup:
GMS 32
APC 9x6 & 9x5 (like 9x6 best - faster)
Hitec HS-82 MG & (2) HS-225 MG
Hitec Freedom 9S RX
Sanyo 6V 1000mah NI-MH Bat (2.4 oz) - can fly all day before recharging

2.82# Dry Wt

Getting ready to try a Kentucky Moose Can muffler on it.
