Are you kidding me! I have to detune my planes just so you guys can keep up and be competitive, or was that bloodthirsty?
Are you bringing a Gremlin for stock class or are you going to try to use that super Gremlin and say '' it's stock '' at this contest too! If we had a jet class you probably would still be faster with that thing! Remember if you go to fast and loose your own streamer that's a cut for the other guy! Just bring the money, I need a few extra bucks!
Yes I am bring a Stock Plane? And yes you will need to bring a few extra buck!

Guys! I have been trying to "Electrify" a Gremlin using a 42-50 motor I had laying around(should equal a "Power 32"),and a 4s 4000mah battery.I've flown it,but the performance wasn't very impressive.
I think I see my problem. You are giving weights just under 3 pounds.Does that include the battery??I built a "Shortened" version, and my all up weight is 3 pounds 10 and half ounces.

we are also using 3000mah 3s packs which saves some weight. are you doing anything special to the plane to support the electric? I built just the stock plane and put a vertical firewall where the fuselage is totally square and mounted my motor there. I did have to slide the fuselage about 1.5" forward to achieve the balance at 1.75" behind the LE and I slide the battery up against the firewall when I fly (again for balance point)

4000mah 4s pack is running about 450g while a 3000mah 3s pack runs about 275g, that's a 6+oz difference in battery alone

Well Hello,

Yes weight is a major factor to flying Gremlins well. Over the past 2 seasons I have slowly been perfecting the Electric Gremlin to perform at or above the performace the Gassers/ Slimers enjoy. This has not been an easy task, but there are two major factors to building a hot EG (Electric Gremlin) 1) Try to get the weight down to around 3LBS +/- 4oz. 2) Use high KV motors in the 1100KV range.

Your 4 Cell packs are killing you and most likey making it hard to hand launch your plane. Remember you only need to compete for only 3 minutes and keep one minute to spare.

I have attached data from my current Combat Gremlin

If you have more Question give me a shout.

Steve

Well.I should have first said that I'm not flying combat.I'm converting a .40 powered plane that my brother built(because He no longer wants to mess with glow fuel),and then give it back to him.I had hoped to match the performance of the O.S. 32 powered Gremlin I had a few years back.I want it simple, easy to fly and somewhat fast!
I made the first flight using my 2 3S 1800 packs in series(6S) and a 10x6 prop(I needed to see if the motor was capable of flying the plane).I went with the 4S battery because the motor is only around 800kv.And the 4000mah hoping to get about 5 minute flights.I'm currently using a 12x8 prop, cause it's the only thing I had that would load the motor to 800 watts.I tried a 12x10 prop, and it was all but impossible to launch(I'm lucky it survive),but it flew well(still not that fast though).
It seems to rolls hard left as soon as You let it go.I'm thinking the motors torque is rolling it,and the wing can't resist it until You get some airspeed.I am going to try using a 5S 3000mah battery and a smaller prop to help with the launch.Do You guys have any guesses as to a good prop to try??Any other suggestions?? Although I'm pretty well stuck using this motor, and I've already spent my budget on batteries!

May I ask what motor you are running? My reason for asking is, I can run motor calc on the motor and give you the best setup for that motors specs.

I don't know the specs of the motor. It's a "FleeBay" somethign I had 2 of in the garage. From the 42-50 size, and around 800kv I'm guessing it should equal an E-flight or Great Planes Power 32.

LOL... Will ok I have a few of those unknowns in a box downstairs myself! I have attached a list that you can view. Remember these are only guess base on the info you gave me but it should be close...

It is sorted by Cell size and then prop size. If I had my pick I would go with the 5 Cell 10x6 or 10x7 config. This should give you the performance of a 32 or better.

OK, Thanks a bunch.I actualy just picked up a 10x7 prop to try.I was thinking about a 10x8,but they didn't have one. From your figures I still like the 10x8.I only lose 1.3 oz of static thrust and 10 seconds of time, while I gain almost 10 mph.

I have been flying mine with a 10x8 and an 11x7 with good luck. I also think i like the 10x8 best. I just use a standard power APC prop. But Steve is the man when it comes to running the numbers

Great,Now how about my 42 Inch version??It's using a turnigy 35-48 1100kv,and the 4s 4000mah.On 3S and a 12x8 it just rolled left and dropped before I could do anything.So I'm taking the 4 cell pack from his,and upping him to 5S.

I would stay with the 10X6 or 7 to make sure the motor and pack is not running hot. Remember those stats are guesses. Additional you will most likely have a longer run time then shown on the sheet. I'm thinking 6 to 8 Minutes.

"42 inch what?" Gremlin of course(or maybe Gremlette).

If I give his back,I have to have something ready to beat the pants off him don't I??

I keep picturing Al Paccino,("I want You to meet my Little Friend")!

This will have me going in the right direction. Now if I can just get past my high wing loading and stall speed to launch it??!!
Thanks guys,I'll let You know how it works out THIS weekend.

Just wandered back in here and wondered how it flew? I did try a 4S pack in mine but I used a 2200mah and got 5-6 minutes I believe. Dynamite performance

Check out the Reith GREMTWIN.
And now we have a production one that I started kitting and announced at the NEAT Fair. Same wing/fins as the original so it flies the same. There's even a video on the link [link=http://racores.com/GremTwin.html]GremTwin[/link]
