Default P-40 vs P-51

My buddy and I have the Great Planes P40 and P51. I have the P40. Both of us have O.S. 32 SX, He (P51) has the Nelson/Ultrathrust muffler, I have the Jett muffler on the P40. Both running APC 8x7 props. We were flying together going fast and just doing circles. We got too close, and we hit. Mid air collision. I knew we hit... I heard it, and the P40 felt funny. I didn't know if I lost a wing, or elevator. I chopped the throtle, turned it around and landed. I noticed the landing gear looked funny. As it turns out, the Rudder of the P51 was somehow stuck to my right landing gear. [sm=72_72.gif]

In the pictures, you can see where my prop struck the elevator a couple of times. Then it struck the horozontal stabe twice going through it, and taking off a chunck. We kinda set the planes up to reinact how they hit. I even cut his receiver antenna. The P40 was obviously going faster! [sm=biggrin.gif]
My buddy landed the P51 hard in the dirt. He said it was yawing badly.

The only damage to the P40 was a small ding in the leading edge of the right wing, cracked the bottom of the cowl a little more than it already was, and scuffed the prop.

By the way, we had a GPS in the P51, and the max speed was 135MPH

It was AWSOME. I expecially liked the fact I took off his entire vertical stabe, and landed with it.

These planes ROCK!

Your p-40 was going faster because it was going striaght. I was climbing away from the mouth on your plane!!!

I still can't believe we got those planes up to 135 mph!!!

You forgot to mention how the third plane, piloted by me, almost crashed because the pilot was laughing so hard I couldn't see my plane.

We are using these planes as kind of a proof-of-concept for Reno-type air races with .25 size warbirds.

That's awesome. I got a Combat Corsair and OS 25 FX sitting in the basement just waiting to be assembled. I plan to add landing gear, and possibly some other mods like those mentioned by other "Combat" pilots in the other threads.
