Default 1/8 Funny car project!!

Well Nitrorage and his cars inspired me to build my own. Thought I would drop in and show off my next project. I ordered full scale funnycar plans from Mark Williams chassis online. I thought I would have to scan and resize them for 1/8th scale. when I got them they were already scaled in 1/8th. I ordered 16 feet (planning on building more than one chassis)of 3/16 4130 chromoly tubing from Wicks Aircraft supply and will start the tube chassis soon. The body is from New Era Models. I will update this post as I work along with the project. I'm also making a homemade tubing notcher that I will let you peep when I'm finnished..

What size motor and running gear are you planning on using. I'd like to build an r/c drag or funny just not sure of the drivetrain.

Whats pictured is a Losi LST diff. You can machine a gear hub and run a 1/4 inch axle in them. I have another dragster that has it done and they are bullet proof. The engine is a LRP z.28r. Its a good motor but I might go four stroke like my other car. Maybe twin four strokes. I'll post some pics.. I just bought this off Robert Stirling of Stirling Race Products. I have two of his cars now. He has some pretty cool ideas.

Yes it is.....I know its not a real tubing notcher,But it works pretty darn good. I also used it to cut my chromoly tubing. I also have a sherline mill. Once you realize how handy they can be you just cant live without them. Funny thing is that I use the taig for almost anything. Even milling!! I dont know why I even bought the sherline..... The Taig lathe is a very handy machine..and cheap!!

Nice build,,,[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

I also built a funnycar from 1.1 scale prints,, years ago,, Except it was 1/4 scale, I have built many 1/4 scale cars over the years. What size flute are you using to notch/fishmouth your tubing??

I have a few 1/4 scale funnycars on my site if you want to check them out, there listed under my quarterscale tab at www.quarterscaleberetta.com

Yeah I have been very busy lately and havent had a chance to do much updating to my site,, I will be here soon though I am in the process of designing & building 9 types of 1/4 scale cars that will be available soon after testing is complete,

Well I own a few tube benders, I own a autobody shop and replace brake & fuel lines quite often,, I use the model # RG-59112 from.

http://www.northstate.com/ridgid/ind...tml&lang=en-us

It's up to you but you should try useing a 6 or 4 flute endmill they cut very well.

Thats cool a 4 flute will work good,,, Yes I have a syil X3 cnc mill, Let me know when you need them brackets made, I'm sure i could help you out on them, Just make sure you have all the dimensions correct,

Also you can take a look at the S&W chassis site, they have a full line of all types of brackets, you can save the pics then scale it down, I do this quite often or if needed you can blow it up on your printer to scale,
