Urban Assault Racing Drag Cars

9 Attachment(s)
Greg's super gas/pro stock car was just finished a few hours ago, but not early enough to go to San Antonio to test. Testing will be tomorrow morning and Greg will report back at that time.

BTW, the production cars will not be "hairy" like the one shown below. We have to find out a better way of cutting CF with the color inlays, so until then, we will only offer black CF. Also, the flat head screws/cone washers will all be replaced with button head screws in the production versions.

Fully loaded (2S 5000mAH battery, ESC, standard servo, wheels, steering, body, etc.), the car weighed a hair (no pun intended :D) over 41oz.

Looking good there Sunny. Greg and you did a great job on the design. Seems that I have to get me one to see how much power I can throw at that thing. Love the squirl cage motor mount.

SunnyHouTX 08-29-2009 11:57 PM

RE: Urban Assault Racing Drag Cars

Thanks for the kind words Romano. That motor mount is in essence a torque tube, which transfers all of the power output to the rear end rather than dissipate a little it into the chassis. This will be a very efficient set up.

A couple of more videos from last weekend:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pCmpHDIfEo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQQE0aPZ-pA

Track is very sensitive to temperature change. Actually had to use medium Koford on a couple of passes since the sun hadn't come in through the clouds yet. From what I hear, there are more 1.4s being run now in TF by more Texas racers on the new surface compared to the old. Which means that the new surface is just what the doctor ordered for us speed freaks. I haven't run my A51e yet so there's no telling what to expect. I believe this is the fastest track at the moment and the IMDRA Worlds will be an eye opener. Especially with Brendan and Todd from QMDRA coming over to race in extreme class. TF will be keenly contested also. Less than 3 weeks to go and the excitement is palpable. I think this will be the biggest Worlds in some time, if not ever.

Hey Modrodz, a little birdey told me that you wanted to try out a drive line set up soon [&:] :D

Hi ya Mudgy. We had a couple of Aussies from Brisbane come race in Texas and they got to see the chassis in action. They were pleased with it as well.

Is this a direct drive car or 2-speed? Any SPY photos to share?

SunnyHouTX 11-14-2009 10:14 AM

RE: Urban Assault Racing Drag Cars

Hey there Brent. The cars are direct drive and single speed with 4.3:1 drive ratio. The car is basically the same as in the photos (those are the spy photos :D) above save for a little change to the windows in the torque tube to make production easier and also a beefier wheelie bar. In electric form, these cars have had solid numbers: 1.6s and 1.7s in 2S super gas and 1.4s and 1.5s in 3S funny car.

We will be working on an electric dragster and nitro single speed version of the short cars very soon, same gear ratio, maybe to be produced in the January - February time frame, sooner if all goes smoothly.

And the beauty of it is that it all only weighs 36.6oz! A huge improvement from the prototype version.
