Default Yokomo drift kit vs. Tamiya TB-02 and TT-01

Well after seeing a certain Singapore drift video, I am very interested in getting an RC car for drifting.

I can get a Tamiya TT01 kit with aftermarket parts:
- One set un-assembled 1/10 scale TT-01 electric car
- One modified Motor ( Team Orion Havok ball bearing motor 23T )
- One APEX Electronic Speed Controller ( w/ Reverse )
- One set FUTABA AM Radio Control with 1 x S3003 Servo
- One set stainless steel Full Ball Bearings
$199 US DOLLARS

I can get a Yokomo DP-AE86 drift kit:
MR-4TC SD chassis
540 motor
Body/stickers/wing
Tyres
(the drift package...)
$191.010 US DOLLARS

I can get a standard Tamiya TB-02kit:
540 motor
Body
$177.650 US DOLLARS

Which one should I get!!! (obviously the bottom two dont come with remote/charger/esc...)
(shipping to New Zealand not included)

You help would be appreciated

I don't have any experience with the yokomo stuff yet, but I do have a tt-01 and I CAN say it is a very fun car to drive. I purchased the impreza kit at my local hobby shop for 74.99, bought the radio and electronics for 62.99 on closeout (hitec radio & servo, dynamite esc), picked up some ball bearings for about 15 bucks, got a venom fireball 21 turn motor for 17 bucks, 2 batteries and a charger for 40, and a sweet hpi s15 body for 18. I went to home depot and bought 2 feet of 2" abs tubing for a buck thirty eight and it's an extremely driftable car...if that's a word lol. Anyways, all that set me back about 230 bucks, the price you're going to pay for the yoke plus shipping and ya still gotta buy electronics for it. It is only my opinion that if you can drift just as well and still have money left over for even more hopups, sounds like a sweet deal to me. Like I said it's only my opinion, so try checkin to see how the yokomo's drive and go from there. Just like buyin a new car, test drives are always great too

I would go for the TT-01. The Yokomo drift kits are such rip offs. But I think an even better choice would be to get a RTR TC3 for 200 and put on some ABS. Don't forget a body too.

If I just bought the Yokomo body for $25 US DOLLARS, would it fit on the tt-01 chassis?

Aslong as the tt01 can drift good Ill buy that tt01 package in my first post, it seems quite cost effective.
Is it better than the tl01? What's its max speed?

Thanks!

To be honest with ya I'm really not sure what it's top speed is, although any drifter knows speed is not as important as style. I will say that when I do get enough traction to get it goin straight with the abs, it's not a slow car at all. As stated before I've got a 21 turn motor that does the trick quite well. I've heard that anywhere from 19 to 21 is usually a great motor for a drifter and I have no problems with mine as well. And yes, the yoke bodies will fit on the tt-01 chassis without any problems. The actual chassis width is 185 so 190's are very suitable with it. The one problem I ran into is with the 190's if you try to get the car as low as possible the tires rub the fenders in the back. The 200's are more idealistic, as you can drop it to the pavement and the tires tuck in so it gives it a real widebody effect. If ya want pics of my S15 body on my tt-01 lemme know I just put an intercooler on it about an hour ago...looks hot![8D]

if you upgrade the motor you should also upgrade the esc, drift spec is 15t for motor and esc

Yokomo, you will find that the tamiyas will very soon be not fit for your drift level once you get good, go with the Yokomo because that way you can drift nicely when you get better, or try the Sprint2Flux out, not sure if its good for drift though, but I also hear and know if you got money get a HPI Pro-D...just not tamiya...

Yokomo is a good brand but the TB-02 seems overpriced. They sell on ebay for $70 plus shipping.

I just registered here.

My opinion is buy the Yokomo. Since the Yokomo is specialised in drifting.

Here'smy Drift Package Light,(on the right) a smaller version of the 1:10 Yokomo Drift Package(Takara Tomy, not the Yokomo version.)
It's real good in drifting. Speed is good too.I have no doubt in Yokomo's performance being better than it.
But if you like Tamiya, then go ahead and get it. it's a good brand too.
It only depends on visual(decals, spoilers, etc) and performance.

By the way, how much will it cost me for a full set of the Yokomo Drift Package?
I'm looking for it but still can't get it. (I'm from Malaysia)

An Auldey.(on the left) So called"Honda Civic".
NOTE: For members in Malaysia, NEVER buy any Auldey r/c car. Not only its car designingSUCKS, its performance SUCKS the max!

TT-01ED, if you get one this is a mix of the E and D.
TB-03D
Yokomo is awesome. THE CS Mod is simple but kinda pricey as well.

These are what I used to have before I got into belt driven. My favorite was my Yokomo but the TB-03D was just as good I just didn't use it enough to tune it for myself.
