RE: Initiate The Slide : The Art Of Drifting
I don't drift. Just need to make that clear.
Drift started with RWD cars like the Trueno, 180SX, FairladyZ, RX7 and early Skylines. AWD is much easier to control, 2WD is doing it old school. This may or may not apply to R/C I don't really know.
And don't be talkin' trash on Nikko, some of my most fun R/Cs have had bodies salvaged from them[8D]

RE: Initiate The Slide : The Art Of Drifting
AWD drifting only in R/C??? You've never seen an AWD Skyline, Evo or a WRX in an Option video? Do You know what you're watching????
I somehow deleted half my original post while editing which is why the old school thing doesn't make sense. I can't remember how I had it worded, but all I meant to say that all the old school drift cars were 2WD.
Just for fun I took the prop shaft out of my TL01 and tried to drift around in the warehouse at work. It is a whole lot harder but it is possible. The floors there are super slick and with my rally tires it drifts as well as with PVC on asphalt. I don't drift though so I guess I really don't know[8D]

RE: Initiate The Slide : The Art Of Drifting
RC Drifting Requires AWD.. Not Debate and No Discussion..
Real time Drifting can be down with all formats MR,FR,FF and AWD..
AZN Racer says he can Drift with a 2WD Nikko.. Unlesss someone can show me RC Drifting with a 2WD RC or Niikko Toy then I shall remain Extremely Doubtfull..
The Proof is in the Pudding..
The Art of Sliding is How Sideways you can get the Car whilst continuing forward Motion.. Not Spinning the Tail around just one corner then spinning out

RE: Initiate The Slide : The Art Of Drifting
Actually a FWD car CAN drift. I can't imagine it would be easy and would require parking brake all the time. There was an article years ago in Super Street that showcased two guys that started a drift team, one with a camo painted Civic that he competed with. Also, I believe the owner of Option2 drifts an R34. I haven't been in the scene for years so I may be a little outdated. Come to think of it, the last Video I watched was prolly '98 or so. Forget it, just ignore me.[8D]

Yeah. That article is was back in 01. They were drifting an Army green DC2 chasis Integra. And yeah, e-braking in FWD is how you drift. But, like I said, it's more racing based than competition. Physics won't allow you to drift FWD in competition. You can't sustain it. But it's still fun.

also in fwd cars it damages the drivetrains. in a import tuner mag a guy had bought an evo and drifted in that but blew to many drivetrains...and just for not drifting in a front weel drive car like a civic isnt considered drifting. just to let you all know

Power Over Drift
A throttle induced drift, this is performed when entering a corner and using the accelerator to slip the rear wheels, producing heavy oversteer through the turn. You will need lots of power to make this happen.
Dirt Drop Drift
This is performed by dropping the rear tires off the road into the dirt to maintain or gain drift angle without losing power or speed and to set up for the next turn. This technique is very useful for low horsepower cars.
Feint Drift
This is performed by rocking the car towards the outside of a turn and then using the rebound of the vehicle's suspension to throw the car into the normal cornering direction. This is heavy rally racing technique used to change vehicle attitudes during cornering.
Jump Drift
In this technique the rear tire on the inside of a turn or apex is bounced over a curb to lose traction resulting in over steer.
Braking Drift
This is performed by trail braking into a corner. Loss of grip is obtained and then balanced through steering and throttle motions. This is mainly for medium to low speed corners.
Kansei Drift
This is performed at high speeds. When entering a high speed corner a driver lifts off the throttle to induce a mild oversteer and then balances the drift through steering and throttle motions. The car that is being used for this style of drift should be a neutral balanced car therefore the oversteer will induce itself. If the car plows through any turn this technique will not work.
Long Slide Drift
This is done by hitting the brakes through a straight at a high speed to start a high angel drift and to hold this to set up for the turn ahead. This technique can only be done at high speed.
Swaying Drift (Manji Drift)
This is a slow side-to-side faint like drift where the rear end sways back and forth down a strait.

Yes.. Someone who actually knows How to Initiate the Slide..
Replicating those in RC cannot be done without an AWD Chassis..
Which is essentially what this Thread is All About

He didn't forget anything. That's not mentioned in the Formula D handout that we all get at the Formula D events, hence, it wasn't posted.

power over drifts apply to me... 'feint drift' is also the scandanavian flick? i can do that too... but not with a purpose built drifting car, just with my truck that happens to have too much torque on-road

RE: Initiate The Slide : The Art Of Drifting
You could probably pull all of them off with enough practice. I'd imagine it wouldn't be exactly the same since we need AWD, but the effects would be similar enough. I'll try it tomorrow and report back. Now I gotta find my Formula d catalog.
