Running lipos with no cutoff,
hey, i was wondering if there was some way to tell if your lipos were going to over discharge without a lipo cutoff?, do you notice some type of performance change right before they dump, or do they just keep going till they over discharge?

They dump significantly before they over discharge. It is pretty easy to catch. I have run one of my kids trucks without an LVC for about 2 years with no issues. As soon as you see the truck slow, turn it off.

RE: Running lipos with no cutoff,
yeahh i very rarely hit cutoff on 2s and i have mine set for 6.3v (.3v over the limit) and when i do hit it, its more often than not after a speed run the lipo's dump at somepoint during it and the car is a ways away so i drive back slow and it'll trip it...

RE: Running lipos with no cutoff,
It's risky, I've had a lipo dump and no warning, it puffed up a bit. Also, depending on what, and where, and how fast it is being driven, the car may not show a real drop in performance to give you prior warning. A low geared truck driving in dirt, won't really "dump" in any obvious way, if you're driving around 5-10 mph.
That said, I've had good luck with driving my Summit on the stock EVX, with 4s lipo. I'd usually check every 10-15 minutes and get a reading on the voltage of the lipos to give me an idea. Usually if my 2s got around 7.5 volts, I'd call it done and bring it home (the last few times I went crawling in the woods), with just enough power to make it back before the cells reached < 7.0 volts.

RE: Running lipos with no cutoff,
Alright, i have a LVA but im not sure if its working properly, I useually flying around racing the track or bashing around, if there was a drop in performance i feel like i would notice it, I could always run the LVA and and wait for the dropoff just to be safe,

RE: Running lipos with no cutoff,
You can find cutoffs and LVW units for next to nothing on ebay. While it can be done without them, as stated above its risky business. Better to go safe for a fewbucks more than ruin a good LiPo and possibly cause damage to your expensive RC

RE: Running lipos with no cutoff,
you can notice a dump just when the lipos voltage is getting close to 3.0-3.1v. but, a low-voltage alarm is cheap, and can save you money in the long run. a $5 LVC can save your $25-$50 lipo. its worth it for sure.

RE: Running lipos with no cutoff,
I wouldn't risk it just spend the extra $25 and get one of these:
