Default Is this ESC for heli/planes only?

WARNING! Noob Question:

Is this ESC for heli/planes only? Will it work for a car/truck/buggy setup?

Yes it is for planes.
If you use it for a car you will need to use mechanical brakes since it will not have brakes.

And no reverse.

Might work for a nitro conversion, like one's with the reverse module that you can shift (T-Maxx, Revo).

Probably will also get hot as hell seeing there is no heatsink to cool it off.

No car ESC should get hot with or without a heat sink, TBH. ThunderbirdJunkie's Novak Cyclone speed control had an option of installing heat sinks, but he never did and that ESC never even got warm.

All in the gearing and setup fellers.

I beg to differ. You're right about most stuff but some of the powerful 1/8 ESCs will get cozy and it's totally normal.

you guys read it?

* High rate PWM
* Low resistence
* User programmable brake
* Low voltage auto setting based on battery
* Throttle range self-adjusting
* Soft start ramp up
* Auto motor cutoff with reset
* Runs motor in forward or reverse
* Safe power arming program ensures motor will not run accidentally after turn on
* Low torque start
* Auto shut down when signal is lost

it apparently has brakes and reverse.

edit: and if you look at the picture is has a heat sink.... anyone else click the link but me?

Was thinking the same..It clearly has a heatsink and says reverse but it's listed as a Heli/Plane ESC..

That's a prop brake. It works the same as the drag brake in castle esc's. It won't work like a cars brakes. Forward or reverse means that you can reverse the spinning direction of the prop without taking apart the cowl to reverse the wires.

So i guess this is not the kind of ESC i'm looking for. I was going to put this on a RC truck build along with Tacon BL 3200kv but guess i dont know enough about ESC's to know what i'm looking for..

Bummer..i already bought the damn thing..

Hah.. it's ok. just resell it for the same price.

As for car ESC, look for ZTW, or Aeolian, or ezrun. Those are about the only "cheap" car ESC you will find, ranging from $35-$75. I own a 60 amp ZTW, and it has been fine on 2s-3s on a 2700 Kv motor in my Slash.

test it out, and then re-sell it saying you tested it in america, and shipping is from america. You might even be able to make a profit, if not break even.

I got the ESC in the other day and it's BIG. Looks nice though. The ESC doesnt have an ON/OFF switch on it like the stock one. What should i be looking for to turn the car on and off?

I figured that was an easy way to go about it. Was thinking there could be a switch added to the ESC somehow?

They make ones you can plug in between the rx and the esc. You could get a swithch on the red wire on the battery lead from the esc.

The switch on the stock ESC does nothing but cut power to the radio. If you leave a battery plugged in the ESC is still sucking power

Did you really think a pair of 24-28ga wires really cut battery power?
