Ive got one coming and have the 2-pole version of the motor too and can compare but it won't be for a while because of the weather. I am interested in hearing what people have to say about them as well I have the 4600 motor and mamba max pro esc and will be running it on 3s.

I have a 1406 5700 and an sct 3800 motor in a couple E Firestorms, it's a great motor but for your Slash I would go with the SCT 3800kv motor on 3s. You might have temp issues with the 1406 being it is smaller/ less powerful than the sct motor. I've run the 3800 on 2 and 3s and even on 2s with a 26t pinion it has more wheelie power at speed, the 1406 has strong low end but seems to flatten out some once you build speed compared to the sct ( with both geared for similar top speeds, 40+) The sct motor pretty much will wheelie at will so you have to have throttle control to keep it off it's lid whereas the 1406 has less snap at speed so you can be much more aggressive on the throttle without flipping ( both on 2s). Either way these are great motors IMO...

I borrowed a 1409/1Y 3600 kv long and had good results, maybe a little less than the lehner 1930 6t 3483kv but more power than a vxl or feigao 7Long can 3566 kv, they are all over 50 mm long however if thats a concern. I have not had enough time with the sct 3800 to evaluate it yet, it appears to be right in the fight but near the lower end of this grouping, maybe between the vxl and feigao 7l. I like motors in this mid 3000 range because with a good setups its fast enough for normal use on 2s and stupid fast on 3s

That will be a good setup, what are you running for voltage?

That will run strong on 3s, you'll like it. Have you ever run the Tacon on 4s? I've ran 4s a lot with a couple Medusa motors in a Slash, it's nuts but lots of fun in short grass with step pin tires....

I was running a mamba max pro/novak ballistic 10.5T/4200kv motor in a firestorm. The difference between this setup and a mamba max/CMS36 4600 motor setup in a very similar firestorm was night and day. The sensored motor was a complete dog compared to the castle. Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubi1U7hFxjA

I bought a CMS 4600 and the 4-pole 4600 for the firestorm and am going to figure out what to do for gearing yet. I am a power nut and always run 3s.

I don't know what to run in the blitz yet or how to gear it. It had the above mentioned setup in it but the motor died (bad end bell electronics) and now an LRP vector X-11 motor is in it for now. I am thinking of running one of the 4600s in it and gearing it short. Its too cold outside to figure out which motor to use and what gearing to run now.

The sct setups seem pretty tame to me and I can see why the lower kv is needed for the heavier trucks. I want to find a better balance of rpm and power with the firestorm which is why I ended up with the 4600.

Use this calculator to help with your gearing selections, I set mine up in the 40 to 45 mph range by the calculator and that gets me real close to what I want for speed and power.

The sct motor on 3s is very strong with the right gearing in my Storms

I use that calculator often. Unfortunately motor temperature is another factor that is less predictable and too variable on the conditions. For the firestorm with the original castle/novak setup I had a feeling for how the gearing effected temperatures under the conditions I run and the calculator gave great complementary information when making gearing decisions.

I've changed my motors in the blitz and FS and the heavy blitz is throwing me off. I need to get a feel for temperatures and gearing again. My initial thought is that the SCT systems are really set for a 30-45mph truck that is manageable and strong but not excessive. Maybe I should think of the blitz as something that needs to be smooth and manageable. For the FS I am interested in crazy power even though I plan on not using it much. The idea is to have it on hand if needed with the castle link and if I run a hot motor pulled back a lot temperatures won't be a problem. I want a firestorm that goes 50-60mph and will wheelie on command at all speeds and have as much power as I can handle without it being a liability.

I guess we'll see and the only way to answer this is to get driving when the weather gets warm and start playing around. Thanks for the information. I would be interested in seeing how a 4-pole 4600 compares to the SCT 3800. Is there a difference other than the number of windings between a 4-pole 4600 and SCT 4-pole 3800? Did they just make a new line of 4-pole motors and decide to call the lower kv one(s) SCT?

The SCT motor is a 1410 series, it is longer than the 1406 series and has more power. I have both motors in Firestorms, the 3800 on 3s is a good overpowered setup. I only run it offroad in a large area and have yet to be able to pull full throttle without a blowover. The 1406 5700 is strong on the low end but flattens out a little once you build some speed so I can squeeze full throttle out of it running a 19t pinion on 2s. Heat has not been an issue on either. The 4 pole motors are much more efficient vs the 2 polers so they make power not excessive heat.
Another option to consider for your high speed needs is the new 2400 kv offering, you could run this on 4s and gear for whatever speed you want. This is a 1415 series 70mm long so it's a monster for an ST, you can set 2 2s packs on there sides in the battery tray and install 55mm bolts in place of the stock battery retention bolts to secure them. The extra weight will help a little in keeping the front down but you'll still have to be easy on the throttle. I run 5oz of lead in the front of my 3s powered Storm and it helps.

A 3rd Storm I have setup with the SCT motor on 2s with a 26t pinion and again it runs similar to the 3s Storm, stronger than the 1406. I don't have any weight in the front of this one so it pretty much will wheelie at will and is hard to get to full throttle without the front end going skyward.

One of my Blitz's I have setup for 4s using a 36/50 4 pole 2200kv Medusa and in short grass with 2.8 Imex step pins mounted on the rear the grass shredding roost is most impressive, wheelies on command there also-very fun to drive. Thankfully we have a lot of good options now for power and that should continue to get better with time...

were did you get 1410 for the the sidewinder 3800 sct motor, mine is 53 mm long, the 1409 is 57 mm long so it would be strange if castle named them that way, the 1406 lists as 49mm long, so maybe the sw sct 3800 is a 1407 or 1408 LOL. Its so hard to tell a motors true power in the snowy crappy weather and sandy streets so my 3800 has only seen 2s and 8 cells so far.
LOL on the lead, some guys use stick on wheel weights for speed runs but we have found its much easier to just use a zip tie and some washers around the front bumper or shock tower, that way when your done you can just snip the tie. One local who is a proud redneck showed up with duct tape and quarters to hold the nose on e jato conversion down.

"Late October is correct. The ESCs are in production right now, and the 1410 motors are in transit. They should ship to Hobbico the week of Oct 25th."

Thanx!

A Main lists it as a 1410 in there description also,

Who knows why but it is what it is, works for me lol....
