Man that things looks awesome. Great job on the build so far. Really looking forward to your final thoughts once it running under it's own power.

RE: Nitro-Rob's Carbon Fiber E-Firestorm Build
Its 3mm. I think you can build anything out of CF if you build it right. There are CF savage, t-maxx and MGT chassis out there so if you think you want to go for it.
I look forward to seeing the power as well. If you saw the performance of my last setup you can see why I am seeking more. I don't think there isn't a better motor and ESC without going to the mamba monster setup although I will likely tune it down to save the driveline and make it controllable in the end. I don't mind being overpowered, it just means things will work less hard and produce less heat.
I likely can't drive for a few months to get good conditions so this truck will be a shelf queen for a while. The final hurdle is the bracket for the ESC.

RE: Nitro-Rob's Carbon Fiber E-Firestorm Build
Its all done except the guard to mount the ESC. It barely holds my 14cm long thunderpower battery. The battery holder had to be removed to hold it (?). I notice that the body mounts are a bit closer together on this chassis by about 5mm so I have to extend the body holes. I don't know if the unpainted body I have already has the holes cut for it or not but hope not.
Hopefully I will get access to a friends shop to cut the guard up and the truck will be done this week (except for the Neu motor that is in transit).

I am all about having a better hobby show bash video next year - at least I want to look better than this years performance.

Thanks. They are definitely lighter than the aluminum but its not a dramatic difference. From what I've read good CF is as strong as good grade aluminum. i have a stock e-firestorm as well and will weigh the trucks for comparison when they are done. I bet this storm isn't much lighter than stock because the aluminum offset the CF advantages. Final photos will have some side-by-sides of both trucks, too.
I also have an platinum RC CF kit coming to finish things up as well.

Here is an update of the ESC guard. I sketched it and my buddy Pat cut and sanded it. He is going to weld the seam yet and there will be more finish work put into it. You get the idea, anyways. The neu motor came in today. I am focussing on details now and have been playing with the ride height.

Nice to see a good looking, but sensible build here on RCU. So many are just people slapping on cheap anodized aluminum on their cars.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with it. I am programming and calibrating the ESC right now. All that is left to do is finish the ESC guard, install the platinum RC kit when it arrives and put the underbody protection on it.

This truck looks really good.
I know it's alot to ask, but would you be able to make up a parts list? And what "blitz" parts you used? If not, I understand but I also have difficulty finding parts for the truck that are good quality. Alot of the stuff I see looks very cheap.
Thanks alot.

RE: Nitro-Rob's Carbon Fiber E-Firestorm Build
About a year later....
About a year ago I started to build this truck. I started driving it around april or may and used it as one of my main vehicles for the season. It ran 50+ 3S 5 Ah packs and about 10+ 2S 5 Ah packs.
Changes since it was completed:
Switch to Castle SCT 3800 motor
Switch to T-bone bumpers and wheelie bar
Switch to RPM rear bearing carriers and bearings
2.8" tires/blitz hubs used with dirt hawg tires
Changed to gear differential - went through two ball differentials quickly with the 3s power
The truck was bashed on the streets at high speeds and there was little carnage. I tore one RPM A-arm and brace and cracked a CVD. I also replaced the ball ends and plastic undercoating about half way through the season. The slipper setup had a bad nut that eventually wrecked the plates and they needed replacing. Other than that all I've done is blown it off with air, cleaned/greased the drive cups and routine maintenance so far and it has not been torn down significantly. The white body was new for the first run and was used for most of the driving.
I run a these thunderpower packs in it:
65/130C 3s 4300 mAh
35/70C 2s 5400 mAh
30/60C 3s 5000 mAh (*did >90% of the driving with this battery)
I burned through four pairs of road rage tires, four pairs of dirt works tires and one set of the stock FS front tires this season. All 2.2's, I just put the 2.8's on.

You have really done an amazing job with this RC build Rob. I've enjoyed watching your buildover the last year and appreciate all the innovations you put into it. I may even try to incorporate some of it into my cars. Thanks for taking the time to document your progress.

RE: Nitro-Rob's Carbon Fiber E-Firestorm Build
Thank you for the compliment and for following. The point here was to demonstrate quality parts being put together intelligently and I didn't to go hardcore with just cool looking parts. It is a very functional vehicle that is very robust and has held its looks pretty well considering what its been through.
I purchased a few RCs after this one and given them a lot of attention as well but this one gets the most driving time. I really enjoy 2wd and this is a daily driver and not a shelf queen.
I made a mistake earlier, the 4600 castle 4-pole is installed right now temporarily while I play with the SCT 3800 somewhere else. Both are great, I give an edge to the 3800 for the stupid power and wider gearing possibilities.
We'll see how it holds up after two years.
I forgot to mention I have a custom painted body coming that should look familiar to a lot of people...stay tuned.

Its great for temperatures. 100 F max in 50 or so degree outside temps. 88/19 gears. Thats also good in the hottest summer day, I remember up to 150F max.
The 4600 is the sweet spot for the FS. The SCT is largely wasted in it but a lot of fun.

The steering posts, black parts of the body post hardware, front bulkhead, differential and red body are from the stock truck.
