In the UK you can buy a tough plastic one from a company called RPM, I think they will also sell in the US.

I think a B3 one will fit anyway.. (not 100% sure, but im sure somebody told me it was the same)

RPM is the way to go. They are pretty cheap (under $10.00) and are super durable (it will outlive pretty much any car you put it on).

i had to cut a hole in the end of the gear cover so the rod that holds the spur gear on would fit. otherwise the rod would hit the plastic and would not fit

Default b4?

Our B3 / T3 gear cover fits the B4 without the spur gear shaft sticking out the end of it. There are some slight issues to take into consideration but it is about a 95% match for the B4. First, thread in the lower mounting screw and then slightly squeeze the gear cover to allow the second mounting hole to line up. It's off by maybe 1/2 of a millimeter, no big deal. The second thing to take into consideration is you may have to grind a flat spot on your lower motor screw's washer. The washer is so large that it will interfere with the sealing surface of the gear cover. Once the flat is ground on, the gear cover should fit just fine. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your interest in RPM products. If you have any other questions or comments, please feel free to send us another e-mail.

The RPM cover in the Tower Hobby link above is exactly what we ordered and they fit our B4's (3 of them) with no modification at all. Cap will even cover the adjustment screw, nothing sticking out that is.

Show the guy at your local hobby shop that it works when you get it and perhaps he won't mislead others in the future.

Cheers!
