Help Me Setup an EXT2
Hello all, I am just getting into the hobby and purchased my first RC car since my Tyco Turbo Hopper I had as a kid. I picked up the Duratrax Evader EXT2 after reading in several forums that it is a good entry vehicle with room for upgrades. I plan on running it stock for a bit and bought it mainly for bashing around, but I am already thinking of potential upgrades and am hoping for some input. This is what I am thinking, based on the price and number of times I have seen them recommended, but would love to hear any recommendations or advice:
Motor
ESC
Charger
Battery
Bumper Set
Thanks!

Make sure you get a lipo charging bag and the bumper would work, but it would look ugly on a stadium truck like the ext2. Get the rpm bumper for the rustler (i think) and that would be better. And you will probably need to regear and experiment, so you might need to pick up a new pinion if temps are over 130 just to be safe. For everything else you are good.

RE: Help Me Setup an EXT2
rpm bumpers for the T/B4 work well you just gotta do a small mod that sadly voids the warrenty tho it doesn't comprimise structual integrity...
or t bone racing makes a set for the evaders

as far as motor and esc looks like a good setup i'd just get a pinion assorment RR makes a good one, you'll just need a 1/16 inch driver

those are nice and you get 2 incase you loose one

A set of hex wrenches would be nice. Makes working and fixing broken parts easier.

RE: Help Me Setup an EXT2
that combo has a smaller motor that is just finned out to the size of a 540 motor iwth a built in heat sink, so it has less power but i don't think by much... the bigger system is just more power and such

RE: Help Me Setup an EXT2
Well, if I wanted to try the 35A Ez-Run package, would the ESC be able to handle the motor I listed in the first post if I wanted to upgrade later?

RE: Help Me Setup an EXT2
the 75A rating on the motor is when its at WOT or under max load.
The 60A esc is continous, the burst current is 380A,
Id go for that combo if i was the op. Gonna give great speed and great tourque for a st

RE: Help Me Setup an EXT2
if i were the op id rather go for the 60A 8.5t combo though.
It comes with a
60A esc, (the one listed by the op)
8.5t (4000kv) motor (true 540 size motor)
and it also includes the programming card so you can fine tune your settings.
And it all comes in a package together for like 5-10 buks more.
overall its just easier to buy the set
Allthough i have heard that the tacon motors are VEEEERY nice when it comes to the power output
just another option to consider

Hi i already know that but with the evaders being so light the 380 finned motor set ups still feel to powerfull for what the evader is in my opinion,

RE: Help Me Setup an EXT2
I think I will probably go with my initial inclination of the Tacon 3930KV with the eZRun-60A ESC. Maybe the 3500KV or 3200KV, but I haven't figured out how those will perform differently. I saw a review of the 3200KV Tacon motor on UltimateRC and have it in my mind that I want one of those. The reviewer compared it to the Velineon 3500KV motor and it compared very favorably. Here is the link.
The advice to add a pinion set is a good one. Also, I found an RPM bumper for the RC10B4 that I may add. Thanks for the help with that also guys.
The truck comes Monday, so I am excited to just run it stock for a bit and then add some power.
Another question: Can you turn down the speed/power on the ESC if it feels like it is too much? Thanks again everyone.

RE: Help Me Setup an EXT2
yeah you can turn dow the speed and power on the esc using just the manual but it does take time, eg, a very complicated process of flashing lights and beeps.
id reccomend that you either buy a system with the program card or buy it seperately.
you can program the esc within a minute using the card

RE: Help Me Setup an EXT2
Hi no you can't set up the esc so you lets say are only using half throttle if you do so you will put a big strain on the esc and it will most likly fail.... only thing you can do is set the motor timing frome 15% (stock setting) to 0 timing but this hardly does anything for speed.
Also put aluminum shocks on your list as the stock shocks crack all around the top and lower threads like crazy.

I will definitely add the programming card - thanks for the link. It looks like Ican get the card, a Tacon motor and the 60A ESC for $74.30, which would actually be cheaper than the combo with the same ESC and card, but with the 8.5T 4000KV Hobbywing motor. I'll probably save the $5 unless the Hobbywing motor is worth the extra $ over the Tacon.

RE: Help Me Setup an EXT2
I'd try the Novak Havoc 8.5- http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...axxas-Plug-85T I mostly like quality than quantity for brushless systems.
