Default Hyper 10 sc w/mmpro sys.???

Howdy all, I'm new to the brusless side of the hobby and got a good deal [:-] off the bay.... this came with a venom 14.8 lipo 5000mh which was NOT ran with the mmpro sc system, i checked with the manual and it reads that it can be set-up to run with it, any recommendations so's as not to cook the system, for regular track practice i"ll be using a 7.4 2c 40,5000mh, but because it came in the deal, could it be used safely, any recommendations/comments are appreciated...Thanks all.......... what motor is that? the picture is hard to tell, but it looks like a smooth can, not the ridged can the SCT motors have

looks like a MMP with one of their CM36 motors

the 5700 motor can only accept up to 3s, and with the weight of a 4wd short course truck I think you'll find that motor overheats no matter what you do

it's just too heavy of a truck to run on that motor

you could buy one of the tekin or novak 550 can sensored motors, or if you want to be slick with things....

buy the castle sidewinder SCT system, for about $100... you can use the sidewinder ESC with your 5700 motor in a lighter RC and use the SCT 3800KV motor with your MMP esc in the 4wd

then you've got 2 brushless setups!

yeah, but if he gets the SCT combo

he can use the MMP with SCT 3800kv motor on 3S (that motor is rated at 100,000 rpm max)
and the sidewinder with 5700kv motor on 3s

both will be stupidly fast, and even on 2s both systems will have a ton of power

you already have a nice ESC. no need to go out and buy another system. if you plan to race only, i'd say to go get a novak 550 in 4.5 turns. that will only allow you to run 2S lipos. if you want to run that 3s, get the 5.5T novak.

4.5T Novak:  http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXZUJ4&P=SM

5.5T Novak:  http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXZUJ5&P=SM

the 550 can motors use a 5mm shaft so you would have to buy some 5mm pinions...

depends on what he wants to do

while I certainly agree those novak motors are nice, they are the same cost as the sidewinder SCT combo, so for the same money he can have one brushless system, or two systems

the 5mm motor shaft is nice on the novak, (give you more pinion options as it's pretty hard to find 3mm mod1 pinions, although ofna does make them)

word so far is that the 1410 motor in the SCT combo is equal in power to the novak motors

the novak (or tekin) are sensored, which would make them smoother

plenty of good reasons to make either choice, the 550 cans are nice for racing, and it's also nice to have a second brushless setup around for your next project

Default RE: Hyper 10 sc w/mmpro sys.???

i have recently purchased two sidewinder SCT's and one of the 1410 motors. IMO, so far the sidewinder sct esc's are not good. they both run very hot. i haven't had much time to mess with them, but here are the set ups i have run them on:

truck 1:  SC10 with velineon motor and 23/87 gearing. after about a half of a 5000 2s lipo pack, the motor was about 150 and the esc was 160.

truck 2:  slash 4x4 with 1410 motor and 15/54 gearing. all i heard about was how much torque the 1410 made and how cool it ran so you could gear up. i went up only 2 teeth from stock. after literally 5 minutes of basically just speed runs up and down the street, the motor was already over 150 and the esc was at 170. yes, it was pretty damn fast. in the system's defense, my gear mesh might be tight so i will double check that before i run it again.

hopefully i will be able to get some track time tomorrow for more testing.

i have also read several other accounts on various message boards about the sidewinder sct esc running hot. especially in slash 4x4's. i just don't think it works well in a 4x4. i just wouldn't feel right recommending that this guy go out and spend $120 to put an esc in his truck that isn't as good as the one he has. he has a very nice esc, why not mate it with a good motor? to me that would be more important than a possible second vehicle.

there's where i go (it's actually union city, but real close to hayward). i'm pretty sure most of the guys running in the 4x4 SC are using the 4.5T 550's. either tekin or novak. if you're not concerned about running that 3 cell lipo, i would get the 4.5T novak.

Too Late........ , I went with the novak 6.5 turn motor, I also ordered the extra pinions 12t-17t, i'll be usin that 4s 5000 lipo and play with the gearing as needed, for whether i'm playing or racing, I went with the 6.5 just to help expand my learning curve into the brushless world,as i now know that 4.5, 5.5, motors are the recommended set-up, will keep y'all posted as to hows go's, but thanks all for the info... mpb

YOu might regret the novak. i smoked two of then now i am a Castle runner through and through. Here is my Sc10 2.0 with the Castle SCT set up. Running 15 tooth pinion on 3s. Way to much actually.. The ESC runs in the 100 degree range and the motor is 125 degrees after completey depleting a 5000 mah 50c 3s lipo.

keep in mind that the 1/10th scale track is limited to 2 cell lipo. it will not be driveable on 4s...

the people that have them seem to like them. should be pretty comparable to the novak 550 4.5T. again, this motor is 2s only. should give you everything you need for the 1/10th scale track though. just can't bash it with 3s or higher...
