In 1985 I got a Grasshopper, then a HotShot, then a Big Bear. Me and my kids had a lot f fun with those for several years and they got put away. I later gave away all my gear to a friend with a young son.I recently spoke to that friend, and his son is still running the Grasshopper and HotShot. My wife died in 11/09 and I got back into RC cars with an SC10.

I did nitro boats in the late 70's, but that was about the time I got my first 1:1 car, then got thoroughly distracted by girls and dating.
Having stuff to do, models to workon helped with the grieving process.

Default RE: when did you get into rc cars?

1988-when the blackfoot came out it was my first hobby grade RC. Too bad the dogbones were junk.
Later tamiya updated it. I missed it so much I bought a Blackfoot Xtreme a couple years back and still enjoy it.
I quit for many years and didnt get back into the hobby until 2002.

2003 is when I first started racing. I started with a Rustler, yeah it was complete garbage compared to the T4's
and XXXT's that were beating me each week, sure the rustler is a good beginner RC but it's not competitive
no matter what upgrades you put on it.
2004-2005 I beileve that's when I got a Traxxas E-maxx, Tamiya TXT-1 and Kyosho Twin Force.
I had a good paying job back then so I could afford all three of them. That's when monster trucks
were getting popular. They are not as popular around here as they used to be.
2006-2007 Is when I steered away from monster trucks and got into 1/10 4wd buggies.
The DF02 Gravel hound is what I started with.
The Dark Impact came out and I had to get one, boy was I hooked! 4wd buggys are
swift and agile compared to monster trucks.
2008-2009 I started getting with more competitive 4wd buggies since I got my feet wet
with the DF02 and DF03 chassis cars. A B44 and Tamiya 501x were my new stable of 4wd buggies.
I recently traded the B44 off for an SC10. Short Course Trucks are more popular here than anything else.
I have got the 501x back out to play again. I lowered it for onroad running and getting street tires for it this week.

2006 for Christmas I got a Jato. That's when it started.

2006: Jato - Cool at first, but engine died. Disappointed me.

2007: Stampede XL-5 - Fun, but got boring after awhile.

2010: Mini Revo VXL/Stampede VXL - Awesome!

I was first introduced to Hobby grade RC in 1998 when my older brother bought a HPI RS4 Rally. In 2000, I started with a Traxxas Sledgehammer(couldn't afford the Tamiya Jugg2 I lusted for) and a base model Airtronics pistol grip radio. Couple years later I got a Tamiya m03 Mini Cooper for my birthday. I bought many, many more, but I'm not sure exactly what order they came or when I bought them.

I had gotten my 2 1/2 year old son a monster xx forchristmas last yearfrom target figuring I would try to get him into it early, and it actually was my first time using a hobby grade rc. I was immediately hooked. I'm 37 and just got my first rc this past february. I picked up an XL-5 rustler from towerand use it practically every day. Upgraded it quite a bit so far, got lipos and a charger coming next week.Love the hobby, just wish I had gotten into it earlier. My wife thinks I'm a lunatic.

i started about a year ago with an exceed sunfire, their 1/10 brushless 4wd buggy, i beat that thing all to hell and within about 4 months wanted more. i kept seeing this RC made by traxxas, it's now my beloved rusty.  picked that up off of craigslist for 200 and drive that thing to hell and back every time it isn't broken.  just recently i picked up the losi 1/24 4wd sct, love that thing for running around the house

Started in 1984-85. Cars listed below in order as best as I can remember.

Grasshopper - Still have it and it still runs.
Aristo Craft Kangaroo. Actually a pretty good car but the ESC was Huge and heavy. Had actually Lead for the Heat sinks??!!???
Tamiya Bruiser - Wouldn't do this again even if they re-released it.
Tamiya Falcon - Great car for light bashing. Front end is weak.
Tamiya Fox - Awesome car. Great on track.
Tamiya Hornet - Great fun car. Not too be taken too seriously.
Tamiya King Cab - This was a disappointment. Could never keep the Ball diff from slipping and burning up. I rebuild it, hobby shop rebuilt it, friends rebuilt it..
Tamiya Black Foot - Another great fun truck but a little top heavy.
Tamiya Monster Beetle - Again great truck. This on was super top heavy and would roll at the slightest twitch of the stick.
Tamiya Frog & Brat. Got both of these at the same time for Christmas one year. Frog was an awesome backyard racer. By this time I had a small track in the back yard. Brat was a nice show truck but didn't handle at all.
RC10 CE - My first real racer. Fun car, tough as nails and heavy...
Hirobo Celica & Peugeot 205 - Got these on a close out deal. 2 for $99. The Celica never ran right with the stock MSC. The 205 worked great and ran for several years before I ended up breaking it and couldn't find parts.
Bolink Hot rod and the 50's truck. Fun in a straight line and looked cool with detailed bodies. Both bounced around like grasshoppers as they really had no suspension to speak of.
Bolink Legends. Bought 4 of these at a hobby shop that was closing. Great fun cars. Build all for the same way. By this time ESC's had become reasonable so all for cars got futaba radios with Futaba 210 ESC's and stock Tamiya silver can motors. I started a small spec class that ran in an old parking lot by my hose once a week. Great success. At one time we had over 100 cars waiting to run.

I've had litlerally hundreds of cars over the years. These are just a few of the ones that really stuck out in my mind. I'll update the list later when I find my notes.

In 2008 I was watching some youtube videos about drag racing and saw an ad of Exceed rc nitro buggies, went on to their website and been hook ever since. A couple of weeks later on to their forum, with knowledge that their Rc aren't built with best quality, I bought a Micro Desert truck instead. That thing was awesome, lipo + bb2=[sm=biggrin.gif]

Bought a mini revo in late 2010, probably the best buck I've ever spend on. Just not quite sure what to buy next[&:]

My first was a Tamiya Hornet in the early 80s. My dad bought my brother and I each one. Next came a Kyosho USA-1 monster truck in 1991 while I was in the military. Man did I spendy crazy amounts modifying that thing. I got back into the hobby a few years ago. Bought a used Mini Revo in 2008. Love it! Have bought, sold and traded many R/Cs in the past few years. Probably to try different types to see what my son and I enjoy the most. Yesterday I went and bought a new Helion Animus 18SC for the heck of it. Currently up to 4 R/Cs, never can have enough.
