RE: when did you get into rc cars?
sorry for bringing back an old thread but i just ran into this.
so where to begin.
in the 90's first rc, Tamiya grasshopper
then i had a HPI rs4 and nitro sport, back in the days when nitro was cool.
then i retired from rc for a while
early 2000's era traxxis bandit, got the bug again
by mid 2000's era i was heavy into racing, losi xxxt, and mf2. and had 2 Xrays T2's.
joined rc universe in 2006 and added 2 duratrax evaders to list.
got the brushless bug and became a basher sold everything except for 1 evader and 1 mf2 for casual racing.
sold the mf2, 2010 bought a HPI E firestorm
laid low for a while
sold the never used firestorm with brushless upgrade and all my good electrics. 2011
came back got the bug again bashing with evader bought a Mini Revo VXL.
i don't think i will buy anymore RC i am happy with the 2, then again i say that now, lol. who knows

RE: when did you get into rc cars?
my first RC car was a tyco Miskito and i was going to get one that took rechargeable 7.2 volt batteries and they were out, so i got the tyco that took AA batteries. I was making $4 a week for allowance and I realized that it took $5 to put batteries in the car, I cried myself to sleep that night because I could only use my car ever other week instead of everyday, had I gottin a rechargeable model. next I got a 4x4 that did take rechargeables.
my first model grade came in 6th grade as a used JRX pro from losi
then an rc 10

I say before 85, like 83 probably, I was 10 then, but me and friends just had cheapo cars from radio shack or toys-r-us, not till 85-86 did we get into kits from local hobby store, most all us had one or two vehicles from tamiya, only one kid had the rc10, and one had a kyosha.
I remember everyone had same batteries and connectors, and 2 servos, one for steering and one for speed control. Same chargers also.
They were a lot simpler back then.
But i been out of hobby since around 89-90, just now getting back in, big learning curve for me, times have, changed

first car was a falcon .put it together could not wait until light to take it for a spin so had to go out at night time you guessed it 15 seconds later i ate the curb taking out the front end( memories). next was an rc10 then the rc10 with a graphite chassi and a stealth tranny, after that i got a rc10l. dropped out of the hobby for about 12years then came across a eighth scale nitro ,a sportwerks mayhem with a jr radio 100 bucks WOW love the sound smell and power of nitro. just bought a ntc3 last week can not wait to try this thing out. i can assure you it will not be at night .. not trying to have a repeat of the falcon mishap of 25years ago seems like yesterday.

My first few cars i had when i was 8 or so. I had a really fast(i thought) nascar car 2 boats one speeder and the other a yatch. A hovercraft which was awesome! They were given to me bby my dads friend who was in the army that was discharged for some reason.
After that Xmods came out i had a vette an f150 and a mustang which i still have today plus 11 more like honda chevy nissan mitsubishi toyota.
I recently got into big stuff like my tornado s30 and rockslide rs10,
Next within a few days im.getting the axial exo terra!
Ive always loved anything remote control(tv's lol.... )
Ive got two helis both arent anything special just small ones to annoy my dogs with in the house ha.
I look forward to having a whole room full of rc's everywhere!
However the wife doesnt seem to under stand my RC "obsession" as she so calls it

My first non-toy was a Grasshopper.
Got into nitro free flight planes for a few years with a COX peewee .020 then into actual motorcycles in highschool.
Picked it back up when I got my cousin's old buggies he use to race when we where kids. These where my middle boy's first real RCs and where a Kyosho Turobo Optima and a Kyosho Ultima.
Since then, we've picked up a B chassis TA RC10, Radio Shack Audi Quattro and out daily runner, Traxxas Rustler VXL

After stopping by the Ranch Pit Shop in '81, Gil Losi sold me a Tamiya Sand Scorcher, a Futaba FP2P radio system, 800mha six cell pack and an MRP buggy body that Andy Jacobsen shot a paint job on. My first race was the SCORE show in Anahiem. I was hooked, big time, from that point on. Finished second in the ORRCA stock class to Vince Ito at the old 19th St Radio Control Hobbies track. My second car was the "Cox car", the Kyosho Scorpion. Then the RC10 and the Yokomo, then the Losi cars. I went 1/4 racing in '88 with a RACO Grand National and an Alves Sprint Car, in addition to the off-road races and trying my hand at On-Road. Tried 1/8 and 1/12. Went dirt oval racing with the ROAR sanctioned Gold Cup series. I took leave from r/c for a while, then came back trying the 1/4 scale again with a Lightning. Took leave again and went flying (which I still love). I currently have a Losi SCT; a gold pan (85) RC10 wtih the latest upgrades; a Bullseye 1/4 scale sprint car, and a 1/5 HPI off road buggy. I can still get around the tracks of today (most of them indoor clay), but the "touch" is gone. Todays racers are very FAST and they are that way because they put effort into their racing and it produces results. I, on the other hand, just try to get around without making too many dumb moves. I mostly raced outside before, without any killer (motocross style) jumps. Different era, different tracks and different cars. Like I said, you have to put effort and dedication into your racing endeavors................just as years before.
